traveling from Seville to Madrid

we are looking to take the train from Seville to Madrid in midOctober. (At least, we were planning to take the train because it's 2.5 hours and the bus, I've heard, is closer to 6 hours). On the AVE website, the cheapest we can book at any time is $111/pp. That seems VERY high! Is this the usual fare? Is it cheaper if we buy at the station or in any other way, or should we just plan on paying $111pp for our tickets? Thank you very much.

Keep checking - as you get closer to the date web fares will open up and the price will be deeply discounted. But you need to keep checking as these fares will go fast. And be prepared for some frustration with the renfe site.....

summer08bride,

Where are you looking on the RENFE website to see the figures in dollars!? If you mean €, I see nothing at €111.

If mid October is 15th and onward I see web and estrella fares for some parts of the days and at €32.60 and €48.80 respectively.

Best wishes.

I believe I was looking at Rail Europe - should I be looking at a different site? The prices were in dollars...

We want to travel on October 14th, in the morning. 2 adult tickets

thank you so much! I now see what you are talking about. There is a 6:45am train at 32.60 (W) and a few others throughout the day at 48.80 (*)

Does this mean that the web fare is unavailable for all other times on that date and we should go ahead and book one of the 48.80 trips while still available or might more web fares come along at more desirable times? I would consider booking tonight but dont want to rush into it if we might be able to get a web fare instead. thank you!

summer08bride,

Ahh. Nearly robbed by an agency, perhaps.

You should move now for a price that is surely value for a preferred journey. I believe (from monitoring for several years) that there will be nothing more to your advantage.

Read - for concise info. - http://www.seat61.com/Europe-train-t...ways%20website

and for much elaboration - http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Travel-...s.Online..html

I do hope, dear bride, you are not going to have a hard time like many of your compatriots with this.

Best wishes.

"...I believe I was looking at Rail Europe..."

Aha, there's the usual suspect once again...

The renfe site can be ornery, keep trying, and if your credit card doesn'tgo through, it just may be that the transaction was blocked because of "suspicious unusual activity" - call the comnpany that issued your card and talk to alive person.

Also note that there are perfectly adequate express coaches running on the express highways, they cost a heck of a lot less.

See if this gets you interested; www.estacionautobusesmadrid.com/frameset.html

I took a bus Seville-Madrid for $16/pp. Easy ride; clean buses, only one stop. A no brainer if you don't want to drive.

www.socibus.es is one of them - input the trip, click on the selector button for the one you want from the list that pops up, click on Comprar and up comes the price.

The ones I'm looking at Sevilla-Madrid for a randomly chosen date of Sep 18 are 19.50Euros, plus some extras, close enough to what Viajero paid.

Maybe he used a different company for his slightly lower fare - googling Autobus Sevilla Madrid reveals the companies.

There is a 1AM departure that gets into Madrid at 7:10AM, and a 23:00 departure that arrives at 05:15 - they could be ideal to go catch a flight, saving on a night's hotel and giving an extra day in Sevilla.

Wombat-- the link has been posted already. Basically, get to Estacion Sur in Madrid (Calle Mendez Alvaro) and buy a ticket to Seville ("Plaza de Armas” station). 2010 Price is 17 Euros; I paid 12 Euros back in 2004.
