Traveling from prague into Germany-Difficult?

We are planning on renting an apartment in Prague, and renting a car. How difficult will it be to cross into Germany, and drive in Germany with a rental car? Several years ago while renting in Germany, we were not able to take a rental out of the country - has this situation changed?

We just returned from Germany this past weekend. We rented a car in Berlin and toured eastern Germany. At the time of the rental, we were informed that German-made rental vehicles (ours was a Passat) were not allowed to cross the border into Poland or the Czech Republic. Hope this helps.

Trish,
Do check w/your rental company on this but from my BTDT within the past year: driving a German rental into Czech requires paying an additional fee.

Autoeurope site indicates driving a Czech rental in Germany is OK - no additional fee - but there is a fee if you take the Czech rental into another E. Euro. country.
hth,

We just returned from the Czech Republic, Slovakia nd Hungary. We rented a car from National in Prague. The only restriction we had was not to enter Poland. We returned the car in Budapest with no problem. You just have to take into account the high drop-off charges. In our case it was 200 Euro.
AA
