Traveling from Nice to Italy for 1 night - Where should we go?

Hi everyone,
We will be around the Cote d'Azur around the end of October and we were thinking about squeezing in a night in Italy, close to the French border. Where should we go around there? Any recommendations on places to stay? Preferably about 100 euros a night. And is it even worth it to venture to Italy for such a short time? Any comments would be appreciated, thank you!

Thanks for that suggestion! Do you know how long the drive would be? Or how long a train ride would be from around Nice? Thanks again.

Why? Menton is on the border, looks like Italy only better, and used to be part of Italy. Will that do ?

I'd opt for a quick trip to Rapallo just a few dozen miles down the coast from Genova. There are several decent looking Pensioni there that are in the 50-80 euro range for a double - it's off season and all that.

It does not seem like a good idea. Remember that with travel, crossing the border, getting to and checking into the hotel, you will have a less than a half day to enjoy Italy. Then you also have travelling the following day. Also, if you are returning to France the next day, there will be an additional half day lost to travel. definitely not worth the effort or time.
