Traveling from Naples to London
 

I am trying to figure out some logistics of our summer trip. We would like to end on the Amalfi Coast but our flight back to the US leaves from London. Is anyone aware of any airlines that fly direct from Naples to London Heathrow?

The universal answer to questions like this is to go to the Heathrow website, look at "airlines" or "arrivals/departures" and see for yourself.

Not trying to be unhelpful. But on the principle that "teach a man to fish...." is a lot more useful than doing the googling for them...

I could have absolutely sworn I'd flown between LHR and Naples last year.

But I was mistaken. There are no direct flights. Your choice is either to change somewhere like Munich en route, for which any flightbooking website will do, or to fly to Gatwick or Stansted then get a bus to LHR. Allow at least four hours from Gatwick and five - others may say six - from Stansted

Do you have time to take the train to Rome (couple hours), then fly direct to London from there?

BMI used to operate the route, but neither they, nor Lufthansa, seem to offer it now.

This isn't always entirely correct, and doesn't include seasonal flights, but...

Only if you change planes somewhere en route. Which ISN'T what "direct" means.

None of these airlines fly to ANY London airport from Naples. Only BA and Easyjet do - and neither fly to Heathrow.

Change your ticket to a multi-city / open-jaw ticket so you fly home from Naples (or better still Rome as there are mopre options) as it protects you against missing connections. In most circumstances you'd also have your luggage checked all the way from Naples to the US - though if you have to connect via London and change form Gatwick to Heathrow you'll have to collect and recheck luggage. If you end up not connecting through London you'll also get to stay airside and not have to worry about immigration at your connecting country.

Booking separate tickets means you run a risk of having to buy new tickets home - at last minute prices - if you miss your flight home. Therefore for your own safety you'd have to return to London the previous day and have a back up plan if Things Go Wrong. Separate tickets mean you won't be able to check luggage through, have to collect & recheck it and also have to pass through immigration checks.

BA and Easy jet both fly to Gatwick; there is frequent ground transportation from Gatwick to Heathrow. Perhaps an overnight in London could eliminate any missed connection risk. Easy Jet will be much cheaper for one-way travel. The planes are fine and the extras(baggage, credit card fee are clearly disclosed.

But, if not too late, one alternative you might consider is flying directly from Naples to New York - and then continuing on from there?
