Traveling from Hungary to the Ukraine

Does anyone have any information or experience regarding travelling from the Budapest area to the eastern tip of Hungary which is currently part of the Ukraine (e.g. the Carpathian region)?

Does anyone have any advice in regards to visiting this area of Hungary? Where else to go other than Budapest?

Jason: be more specific in your question and ask it on a seperate thread, maybe tell us what you like to do and others will definetly lead you to some cool places.

Rail connections to western Ukraine have improved greatly over the last 5 years. Zahony is in the northeast corner of Hungary and is the last stop before entering Ukraine. You will change train engines here and then proceed the last couple of miles to the first stop in Ukraine which will be Chop. Check your spelling as the hungarian language is confusing and Ukraine uses the cyrillic alphabet. I know several people in Urzghord (several miles south of Chop) who can arrange highschool/college students who speak english and can act as guides. Can also arrange for a "technical" translator if language skills are more critical.

And a visa is not needed for a US citizen to enter Ukraine for less then 90 days, hooray :)
