Traveling from Hamburg to Munich with kids

I'm in Hamburg now and want to take a 2 or 3 day trip with my 5 & 8 year old daughters to Munich. We'll take the train down to Munich and check out the town. Of course, Neuschwanstein castle is on the list but what suggestions do you folk have on a 2 or 3-day itinerary?
Thanks!

As you plan to visit Neuschwanstein, look at booking ahead for the English-language guided tour of the castle (check online on their website).

Other things to consider:
Freizeitpark Märchenwald - the Fairytale Land Park might be fun for you all. All of the major fairytales are on show here in a combination of rides and interactive displays. It's south of Munich, near Wolfratshausen and can be reached by train or car.
Spielzug Museum - not for playing, just for looking, but this Old Toy Museum in Marienplatz in Munich may be of interest if your daughters like displays and are interested in this sort of thing.
Deutsches Museum - in Munich, there are interactive displays for all ages (even grown up!) so worth considering if your daughters are into science, earth, weather, etc.
Climb St Peters - the other St Peters, in Munich. Climb the tower (Euro 2pp, less for kids)for great views over the city.
Englischer Garten - specifically they might like to wander this sizeable park and there is a section where surfing on the Isar happens - bit of fun to watch for a while.
Rothenburg ob der Tauber - again, a train ride away but a shiny sparkly place full of Christmas all year, and a pretty town to boot. In fact, you could stop here for one night on the way from the north (or on your way back up).
Legoland - in Günzburg, north west of Munich, so a train ride away, but a fun place nonetheless.
Bayernpark - located north east of Munich, again a train or car ride away. Lots of amusement rides for all ages, animal section and enough to keep you occupied all day if required.

It's all clearly too much for 2 or 3 days, but gives you some ideas to play with.

My pleasure, I hope you have fun. Oh, and the Toy Museum in Marienplatz should read "Spielzeug", not "Spielzug" - finger slip which means I called it a playtrain not playtoy!

In front of the central station starts tour busses around munich and you will find informations about tours in munich. At the Marienplatz you should not miss the "Glockenspiel" for your kids. Or perhaps the Zoo "Tierpark Hellabrunn" is an option for you.
