Traveling Boots?!
 

OK, don't kill me, but here is another attire question.

I need some good traveling boots for winter in Europe, I would love to buy them there but I want to break them in here first.

Do any of you have favorite boots you can recommend for me? With a lowish heel for walking?

OK, the last boots I bought for a November trip to Paris were some overly expensive black leather that zipped down the back..I wore them day and night. Got them in Nordstroms, best shoe dept anywhere.
Santana (Canadian label) are leather AND waterproof and soft and comfortable for lots of walking. And they look good, not too lumberjack-ish.
Then there are the designer label ones that you have to break in for a long time and pay a lot for..Stuart Weitzman and Donald Pliner are my favorites :)

Try Munro's. I buy mine at Nordstrom, but other stores carry them as well. I took a short boot style of those to London, Scotland, and Paris in the winter for a 3 week trip once and was very pleased. That was the only pair of shoes I took and I never needed anything else. Actually...the big Nordstrom sale is going on now...so if you are not near one go to their website...the Munro's are on sale and this is the time to stock up.

My (black) Kenneth Cole boots are comfy. Do an E-bay search on <Kenneth Cole shoe* (your size)> to find a zillion choices. For example, I'd type in Kenneth Cole shoe* 6.5.

If you don't want black ones: Timberland has these yellow or brown boots that in their yellow version could be described as "duck feet". I like them and they are regarded a casual classic here in Europe.

Thanks for the tips, I will hit Nordstroms tomorrow although the yellow duck feet sound intriging. I'll look those up too, then I can waddle over cobblestones!

I found the Santanas Village on Nordstroms web but they don't look waterproof and the munros Zurich are lace up, are these the right ones?

Where are you traveling and what kind of boots do you have in mind? I bought a pair of Kandahar boots in Basel, Switzerland, a few years ago and they were one of the best footwear purchases I've ever made. They are surprisingly lightweight, waterproof, comfortable, and will last for years. I wore them almost every day during my winter trip in Vienna. Despite the cold, snow and sleet, the boots kept my feet warm and dry (wearing just one pair of thin socks).
Kandahar boots are handmade in Switzerland, not cheap and not easy to find outside of Switzerland, but are definitely worth seeking out. However, they are not "high style" boots, but excellent for walking.

Are you talking walking boots or fashion boots? For walking boots I love my Brasher boots in dark brown leather. Though they are still obviously walking boots the fact that they are dark leather means they are less obtrusive with regular clothes than those boots that look more like trainers (sneakers).

If you're talking about regular boots, I've no idea, sorry!

I have a pair of Santana Boots (Canadian Made. I wore them to Italy Last fall and Winter, they are GREAT. Leather, lined in wool, zippered on the Inside calf, and there's a ribbed portion beside the sipper that stretches to the shape of your leg.
Because of this, I sewed a little pocket in the lining to carry some emergency money and a card. They are extremely confortable, but also flattering, and I wore them everywhere. I recommend them, I got mine in a New York City shoestore, maybe you can find them online.

I hope this works..these are Santana boots on Bizrate.com..they come in all styles and that is what makes them special, they look so good and they are waterproof and comfortable.
I agree with Munroes! I got a pair of sandals here this spring and hardly take them off..such soft leather..which is what you will want with all that walking.

I want walking boots for city not for hiking so that narrows it down a bit.
I don't know why it is so hard to find good looking comfortable shoes, boots and sandals, that are practical, for me anyway.

Just a sole opinion here but have you checked Naturalizer? Mine saw me through 5 comfortable walking days in Paris.

another vote for santanas! i have the tall ones, and shorter ones. took the smaller pair to paris since i'd been wearing them constantly before that.

the liner can get a little warm, but for europe, they are perfect.

got mine at a small philly shoe store . . .
