Travelex (and Travelguard) are reputable travel insurance companies and many travel agencies sell them to their clients with good results. I recommend that you search for travel insurance on the web and compare prices and benefits. Another company to consider is CSA. Be sure to read the fine print about pre-existing medical conditions: usually, if you or a family member see a doctor within 60 days of travel, cancellation because of that condition will not be covered.

I have used Travel Guard for years and no longer recommend them. I filed a claim four months ago that still hasn't been paid. They asked for one document three different times. They short-paid the claim and I had to call repeatedly to get them to admit they did owe the balance. Still waiting.

What's the benefit with insurance?

Try this website: www.insuremytrip.com
I liked Atlas International, primarily for the medical benefits at a relatively modest cost. I didn't need trip cancellation insurance. Compare several companies on this site.

Jamie, I always purchase medical travel insurance, not trip cancellation, baggage, etc. If you are in a serious accident or have a serious health problem abroad, some countries, I am told, require the bill to be paid before you can leave the country. My insurance has taken up to a year to pay for one test! THIS IS NO JOKE! I have health insurance, but always buy supplemental insurance. I use Wallach, but haven't had to use them yet!

Monica-- I have used TRAVELEX for YEARS and highly recommend them....If you purchase their trip csl insurance within 7 days or deposit or within 7 days of making your booking, YOUR PRE-EXISTING IS COVERED.....Otherwise,pre-existing conditions as not covered.
I do know after 9-11 that no one is offering insurance for terrorism (unless you are on the plane that may be hijacked)....If,god forbid, there is another act of terrorism, you are out of luck as far as cancelling on your own---the trip needs to be cancelled by the tour operator or the airline has to cancel the flight.....
