If that is your worst nightmare, you really should get out more..

scatcat Jul 27th, 2010 09:58 AM

I saw a documentary once on sneezes. I haven't been the same since.

tenthumbs Jul 27th, 2010 10:14 AM

mom23~I'll work on that!! Perhaps I'll try to come up with a solution for the flatulent traveler as well. Seems as if he's usually seated next to the child who vigorously massages my kidneys with his feet!! ;)

scatcat Jul 27th, 2010 10:16 AM

I want my own private jet to Europe. The only solution!

Continental_Drifter Jul 27th, 2010 10:19 AM

tenthumbs and scatcat - How about we jetshare?

Suzanne2 Jul 27th, 2010 10:19 AM

Mine is the lady in front of me who puts her seat all the way back and throws her long black hair in my face while I'm eating.

sicilyan Jul 27th, 2010 10:24 AM

Airplanes should have a special section for people with babys and small children. I think it would be nice if the people with children were all seated together. Many years ago I read of a suggestion for a child section in an aircraft.

wellididntknowthat Jul 27th, 2010 10:25 AM

Lunacy of the lawsuit is matched only by the plea to prevent kids under 6 travelling.

scatcat Jul 27th, 2010 10:30 AM

That's a thought. Instead of timeshare condos, we can have timeshare jet!

portiaperu Jul 27th, 2010 10:32 AM

A screaming baby/toddler while extremely unpleasant is not my worst travel nightmare. I can think of many worse things, involving medical emergencies, engine failure, fire, weapons, etc.

Screaming or crying babies? I often offer my assistance as I raised three that flew several times each year, from the age of 6 months, to visit grandparents. Our experiences ranged from the more peaceful to the absolutely ballistic, as far as screaming is concerned.

I dislike sounding dismissive, but have to wish that a screaming baby be your worst travel issue!

annhig Jul 27th, 2010 10:33 AM

sicilyan - this is NOT a traveller's worst nightmare.

that would be : the plane crashing, hotel catching fire, getting seriously ill/ dying during the trip.

a baby crying even for entire trip is really small beer.

Continental_Drifter Jul 27th, 2010 10:36 AM

EEEEWWW Suzanne - that's a bad one too. You can ride on our jet.

griz_fan Jul 27th, 2010 10:40 AM

sorry - but this is really stupid. Yeah - crying babies on a plane can be maddening. But really, there are ways to deal with the problem, both for the parent and for the other passengers (not to mention the flight crew intervening in particularly bad cases). but to suggest that children under six not travel by air is really stupid. Anyone who's flown has his/her stories of crying babies, but what about the adults with B.O., or the guy with the giant garlic and salami sandwich? Or the drunks (don't get me started on the drunks). Unfortunately, there are a lot of ways to turn a flight into a long, obnoxious experience. Get over it. How about a special airplane section for whiners?

BigRuss Jul 27th, 2010 10:43 AM

Hmmm. My first instinct is to tell the OP two words, totaling seven letters.

My second instinct is to repeat that.

We've traveled with hobbits plenty of times and they're fine. Perhaps it is something to do with the parents . . .

grandmere Jul 27th, 2010 10:45 AM

Re Benadryl: Benadryl can have a paradoxical effect on some children and cause even more hyperactivity and agitation.

MelJ Jul 27th, 2010 11:10 AM

Listen, you guys, Marcy and I are running low on gin and popcorn. Now let's get this party started...

sicilyan Jul 27th, 2010 11:23 AM

As much as I can't stand screaming kids, and as much as I agree with the other people here that people with kids should be put in their own section with other parents with kids where they can kick each others seats until their heart's content, I have to agree that I can't imagine a baby screaming would make you go deaf. Is it annoying? Oh yeah. Will it make you go deaf though? I doubt it.
.. babies on a plane are a pain in the ass ..

tenthumbs Jul 27th, 2010 11:26 AM

mom23....I do believe you are a genius.

Suzanne2 Jul 27th, 2010 11:40 AM

Would you rather have "Snakes on a Plane?"

Continental_Drifter Jul 27th, 2010 11:53 AM

grandmere - You are correct about that, which goes back to the parents being educated and prepared on how to head off the situation!
