this site has some info about the strike from the 19th. Might want to keep checking it out as it is in English. Didnt look like anything in todays edition.

The news on yahoo.fr (thanks Kristin!) appears to say that it is If anyone's French is better than mine, please verify this. Still, I don't know if the trucks are running, and how soon cash will be readily available. But by 6/5 I can't believe it would still be a problem unless things break down again.

If you're going to use TCs, $US definitely cost less in exchange fees, and you just have to do a little looking to cash them. Don't expect to use them to pay for things (including your hotel bill), but it's fairly easy to cash them for FFs in large banks (small branches and those not in majorly touristed area may not do exchange). In fact, when we went to cash our "backup" stash of $US TCs to pay our hotel bill, we found while the neighborhood Credit Lyonnais branch didn't exchange foreign currency, a jeans shop around the corner cashed them at the same rate we got from the ATM. So you just have to look and ask around.

I'm going to France Thursday and WAS planning on doing everything through my VISA debit card and have been watching the strike. If you want to follow it and don't speak French, go to http://www.iht.com/ (the International Herald Tribune) for the English-only news.
