You were at the break-even point

TC
€210 X 1.55 + fee (free at my bank) = $325.50

BD
€210 X 1.43 + fee $25 = $325.30

Yeah, Robjame, you're right, but somehow the bank draft "seemed" better; would have had to drive to airport for TCs,etc.

Enough obsessing about this but had no idea it was going to be this time consuming. Merci!

I'm having somewhat of the same dilemma. I need 800 euro to pay for the apt. in Dubrovnik upon arrival. I called AAA and they no longer offer foreign currency travellers checks, but to buy 800 euro cash, I would have to pay $1,184.92 at 1.48 ex. I went online to check out how much it would be to order Amex TC and there is a $1,000 US limit, so I would have to do two orders and it worked out to be about the same as ordering euro cash through AAA. I will check with my credit union re a bank draft, but I'm not holding out much hope that it will be any cheaper. Because I am going to Croatia, I will not even be able to get euro from a cash machine and would probably have to go to a bank. I am not sure how that will work. Would I use my debit card to withdraw cash from the bank? I guess I could arrange with my bank to raise the withdraw limit for that particular day only - what a hassle, it's giving me a headache.

Good news - my credit union will issue a bank draft in euros and there is just a $17.50 order/shipping charge. The exchange will be the rate on the day the check is cut. It takes 4-5 days for delivery.
