Travel with a 13 year old

I'm taking my 13 year old daughter to England to visit a friend this spring. We will have 3 days to travel by ourselves. Any suggestions on a good place or places to go for a short time with a teenager? I was thinking Ireland but am very open to other suggestions.

Consider York.

What are her interests? Have you asked her what she'd like to see?

We'll be in Oxford & London most for about a week visiting a friend of hers, so she's very excited about that. She very much wants to visit Cardiff, Wales -- she's a big Dr. Who fan, so we've planned that in. Other than that, we have 3 days to go somewhere "mom wants" and she says she doesn't care. Sightseeing can bore her so I'm looking for ideas of things that might interest her as well as me.

What about taking the Eurostar to Paris? Book as far in advance as possible to get the cheap seats on www.eurostar.com

If you do this I would fly into London and home from Paris to save backtracking.

A friend recommended to me seeing the Ceremony of the Keys at the Tower of London. It was pretty interesting to my daughter, was 12 at the time. Tickets must be obtained in advance.

Perhaps your daughter's friend would have some ideas. And your daughter seems to have her own thoughts. But, if not, I would, as jamikins suggests, take the Eurostar to Paris for 3 days.

Dr Who fans may want to check out Chislehurst Caves in southeastern suburban London - where they said on the tour many Dr Who shots have been filmed.

if you're going to Cardiff, then Bristol would be worth looking at as another stop.

loads to see and do - http://visitbristol.co.uk/things-to-do - and a very interesting vibrant place.

it's on the same railway line as Cardiff so it would be very easy to get to, too, and you can easily do a day trip to Bath from there as well.

Thanks for the ideas! I'll definitely look into the UK suggestions--have never been to Bristol and the Chislehurst Caves sound like something my daughter would like. We may do Paris, but since it's the one place in Europe my daughter has been (although she was only 8 at the time) I've been trying to think of new ideas. Thanks for the comments.
