Travel to Rome from Genoa

Ok folks...this train thing is like a puzzle if you are from an area that has little train travel available. So bare with me if my questions seem REALLY dumb to you. I am going to be traveling from Genoa to Rome in October. I looked on the Rail Italia site and it gives dates and prices but the seating selections are confusing to be. It gives Normal. Economy, and Super Economy. If I do the Super economy will I be traveling on the roof of the train and holding my luggage?? LOL. We will have a big bag and a carry_on each (my wife and I) so I will need some space. Ok all you travel wizards...help me with my puzzle. The grand prize winner will get me to a station in Rome close to Inn Rome which is on Via Gioia Tauro, Ciampino. Am I asking too much??

It sounds like you are not going to Rome but to Ciampino. It that correct?

According to my info, this B&B is 20 minute walk to the Vatican.

jamikins Jun 21st, 2013 05:39 AM

Can you give us the name of the B&B - that street looks way outside of central Rome when I google map it!

jamikins Jun 21st, 2013 05:41 AM

If it is this Inn Rome it is not even in Central Rome:

That is not a very good location to visit Rome from - you will need to transport into Rome everyday!

Its out by Ciampino airport. So you would take a fast train from Genova to Roma Termini and then a regional train to Ciampino.

Book the first leg in advance, Super Economy is just the cheapest non-changeable option. The regional just buy when you get to Termini.

I think there are two places named Inn Rome

Via Gioia Tauro 41, 00118 Ciampino
http://www.innrome.it/

Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, 251
00186 Roma
http://www.innrome.eu/index.php?pag=dove-siamo

You listed the street for the first one but the second one is near the Vatican.

I don't fully understand the concept of Provinces in Italy, but it looks like the Ciampino one on Via Gioia Tauro is in the Province of Rome but not the City of Rome. Hopefully if my understanding is wrong, someone will correct me.

This is hte website for the Inn Rome at that address:

And the instructions they give into Central Rome:

A bus stopping near the property links to Anagnina Metro Station, and trains take you to the city centre in 30 minutes.

Inn Rome is on Via Gioia Tauro...and we are not staying here to do the tour thing of Rome..this is our pre tour hotel..We have a 15 day tour where we stay in Central Rome for 4 days...my question, I thought, was pretty straightforward...lol..what train do I get from Genoa and what station do I need to get off at. Will I need a cab to get me to my B&B..we will have luggage.

vjpblovesitaly Jun 21st, 2013 06:27 AM

LOL all you want. You are not 20 minutes walk from the Vatican

jamikins Jun 21st, 2013 06:33 AM

I am sorry - perhaps you didnt see my pretty straightforward answer above:

Its out by Ciampino airport. So you would take a fast train from Genova to Roma Termini and then a regional train to Ciampino.

Book the first leg in advance, Super Economy is just the cheapest non-changeable option. The regional just buy when you get to Termini.

And yes, you will probably need a cab from Ciampino train staion to your B&B if you have luggage.

Your welcome.

jamikins Jun 21st, 2013 06:35 AM

Sorry - you're welcome, to be grammatically correct haha

jimwoh99 Jun 21st, 2013 06:36 AM

Jamikins WINS!!! now that you have gotten me to Ciampino...should I take a taxi from that airport to my B&B? Any idea the distance and cost?

Jamikins was concise and gave me the perfect info on booking my train. THANK YOU!!!!!!!

vjpblovesitaly Jun 21st, 2013 06:37 AM

I also told him straightforwardly that there is an Inn Rome in Ciampino and an Inn Rome near the Vatican..

He asked for Rome, gave a Ciampino B&B, then claimed it was near the Vatican.

jamikins Jun 21st, 2013 06:39 AM

No problem - like I said above, you will mostly likely want a taxi with luggage - I would ask the B&B how much that will be if you want to be prepared in advance.

jimwoh99 Jun 21st, 2013 06:41 AM

As far as the 20 minute walk to the Vatican..it does not matter...our tour will get us there when we stay 4 nights in Central Rome....if you want to give me the sights of Ciampino..I'd be happy also. And I do value the input I get. I know you guys are just trying to get me close to things..I SINCERELY thank you all.

jimwoh99 Jun 21st, 2013 06:44 AM

Vjpblovesitaly...I had no idea there were 2 locations but again..I do thank you. I am a TOTAL novice at Italy travel. I just happen to be part Italian. My mother and aunt came from some very small village about 90 minutes south of Rome. My wife is part Italian and she has always wanted to go there...so we are on an adventure.

jamikins Jun 21st, 2013 06:45 AM

Based on google maps it looks like it is 4.5 km and a 10 mins taxi ride (depending on traffic). Sorry, I dont know what that would cost, but just email the B&B and they should be able to give you an approximate.
