Travel to Puglia in August

We are travelling to Italy in the last week of August & the first week in September and thinking of going South to Puglia (Alberobello, Ostuni, etc). We are not going to the beach. Will it be too hot to sightsee? Has anyone been there in August? Would Le March be better--Urbino, Jesi, etc? Thanks in advance!

Not sure about August but it was really hot in June last year when we went to le marche and Puglia. Our trip report may help

Puglia is a big vacation area for northern Italians and locals have told me that there are traffic jams and crowds all over the place during August, especially at the end of the month. Good restaurants will be packed, too (you can see how my mind works!)

I would try to avoid the region at that time. MAny of the interesting towns are along the coast, and many are inland and will be "beastly hot," as my mother would say, and as Elizabeth mentions above.

I found Puglia a tad too hot in late May! I can't imagine being there in August, but people differ in their sensitivity to heat.
