Of course - you could stay practically anywhere in Switzerland and be at Zurich airport in a few hours. Wengen a cinch - you may want to go to Zurich and spend a half day or so there- put bags in train station locker and walk around - like spiffy Bahnhofstrasse often called the swankest shopping street in Europe and around the old town - you have oodles of time but I always suggest getting to departure city as early as possible - never know when train stoppages due to whatever may occur.

You can also send your bags ahead to the plane under Swiss Rail's scheme - check them in Wengen and pick up at airport.

How much will be cost of train fare approx from Paris to Switzerland and then return back for 2 adult and 2 kids (8-12 yr). Please help on this. Thanks

Hi, I have 2 options.

Option-1. Fly from Toronto to Paris, then Paris to Wengen,Switzerland by train and then Wengen,Switzerland to Zurich to fly to Toronto.

Option-2. Fly from Toronto to Paris, then Paris to Wengen,Switzerland by train and then Wengen,Switzerland to Paris to fly to Toronto. This is cheaper than option-1. I am not sure what will be the cost of train from Paris to Wengen,Switzerland and then Wengen,Switzerland to Paris for 2 adult and 2 kids (8 and 10 yr).

Please help on this options. I have to change/book my trip ASAP because seats are being sale very quickly.

Try checking the price of air fare from Toronto separately to Paris, Then check the price of a flight from Zurich to Toronto. Do it separate, sometimes it is much less than checking it all together. You will have much more time in each place if you fly into Paris and out of Zurich. It was much less when I booked from Atlanta/ Amsterdam and then Zurich to Atlanta, but time of year may apply and different airlines. Sue

I don't know about the price of the hotel in Wengen, but you can google it....Schonegg Hotel, Wengen, Switzerland, put in the date or 3 or 4 nights. There is a website of pictures of the hotel. It may be more expensive than you are asking, and if you had a book on Switzerland, you would know more. You can book it on line if it fits your needs, but I cannot get my computer to work right now. Is Wengen open in mid June? It was in July when I was there. This is a nice clean hotel, great location, lovely views of Jungfrau/Monch mtns, but I think may be more money that you want, about 3 hrs from Zurich. I booked it on line, downloaded the confirmation, and took with on trip. Called to be met at train. Check it out. Sue

Just figure Wengen-Zurich Airport costs

and Wengen-Paris-CDDG Airport costs - www.sbb.ch or www.oui.sncf (French Railways where fares could be very cheap if you can get one of the discounted tickets - book ASAP as what you see today could be gone tomorrow. But do a search and see exactly what fares are available - fares for late June may not be loaded yet but try a dummy date that is to see fares which generally will be similar to yourdates if you book early enough to get them.

Hi, Yes you could leave Wengen in the morning and make a 6 PM flight from Zurich to Canada. It is about 3 plus hours from Wengen to Zurich and the train goes right to the airport, but you will have to make about 3 easy changes on the way to Zurich, that is not a problem. It is not very far from Zurich to the airport and there is a train that goes there. You may have to make a change in Zurich to get to the airport, others can address that here. It seems to me that it was about 45 min by taxi from Zurich to the airport. Trains are very punctual in Switzerland, but I would be more comfortable spending the night in Zurich and train/taxi to airport. Sue

The advance train fare, second class, from Paris to Bern will vary from about 50-200 euro for an adult (if you book well in advance you should pay 50-100). Children should be less. Depends on time and date. From Bern, it's the same as I think you have to go through Bern if you land in Zurich anyway. That train trip from Paris to Bern is about 5 hrs versus one hour from Zurich.

I thin there are then about 3 train changes from Bern to Wengen.

Folks with Swiss Passes will find that though those trains from/to Paris have some kind of passholder fare where you get a minor discount it is almostalways best to notuse the pass and use those cheap PREM tickets Christina explains all about above. The low fare will take you all the way to Wengen or any destinaation. Booking only to Basel and then using pass would be foolish if going to say Wengen as it would save $0 over buying the French ticket all the way to Wengen and use a day on your pass.

I just checked the train fares for your whole family for the random date of May 17th:
Paris dp 14.23 - Interlaken OW 240 EUR
Paris dp 14.23 - Basel OW 128 EUR
Discounted fares vary from train to train and from day to day and can go up to 700 EUR OW (standard fare).

OK to make life easier, I'd bite the bullet and fly back out from Switzerland, like Zurich, which would be much less train time. Sue

You'd probably be better off making a new thread with hotel info and cities in title. Few will respond buried here.

HI kenny I sent you a message but don't know where it went. Only kow abou the Hotel Schonegg, Wengen. Very nice, clean, smaller hotel, room facing mountains, ask for that, Jungfrau, Monch, part of Eiger. at end of street , less than a block from lift to Mannlichen, wide open plateau with mtns around, awesome. Train comes ritght into village, call hotel for pick up with bags. great food, had BF and dinner there, awesome. Traditional Swiss rooms, lots of wood panel, comfortors nice bath, can't go wrong, TV/ cable. might be more than you want, but only one I know. I was there in July of 17. Sue

IME you can't go wrong with any hotel in places like Wengen - The Swiss wrote the book on hospitality. Most things in a similar price range should be about the same as being good value, clean, etc. Main thing is getting a room facing the Jungfrau Massif.

Hi, I second the paragraph above. Incidentially I have no connection to the hotel in Wengen, just a guest of the hotel Schonegg. Sue

Personal recommendations from Fodorites are always great - and a valued source even though you probably can't go wrong in a place like Wengen.
