travel to london

I have heard and read that hiring a car service is the best way (value and time) for a family (4 persons) to travel from Gatwick into London. Can anyone recommend a service to us?

For value, posters recommend justairports.co.uk.

Personally, I use AirCars2000 which operates an all Mercedes fleet. Aircars2000.com.

There's also Rays London Transfers www.london-transfers.com.

And right now on the Gatwick Express website, they are offering a 4 for 2 price special. www.gatwickexpress.com

I'll second the Gatwick Express option. Very simple, fast and inexpensive! It takes you directly to Victoria in central London, where you can transfer to the underground or hire a taxi to your final destination.

I thought the LGW Express option a bit pricey @ 12 GBP per (nearly $45. US for two one way last July - more now).

w/ the 4 for 2 special offer, the Gatwick Express would be cheaper than a car service in from LGW. But that only gets you to Victoria Station. If you are staying near Victoria that works great.

But if you are staying elsewhere, a car service all the way to the hotel would be cheaper for 4 passengers because you'd have to take a taxi or the tube from Victoria train station.

But a car will take a LOT longer than the express train. LGW is 30 miles south of London and the drive can take an hour or probably more depending on traffic snarls.
