Travel to Italy - more than 6 months since booster
 

Well, it's looking like unless Italy changes its new rule that went into effect on February 1st, requiring a Super Green Pass (or equivalent such as a CDC card) with the last vaccine no more than 6 months prior (including boosters) to enter hotels or eat inside or outside of restaurants, etc, a lot of people will be restricted. We are set to travel to Italy at the end of March and my husband and I both are fully vaccinated and had our boosters in September 2021 -- which is more than 6 months earlier. So, I'm watching closely to see if we're going to have to cancel our plans. Has anyone heard anything that might change that rule?

Can you get another booster in early March?

My understanding is that the "super green pass" will only be offered to people who are fully vaccinated, that is, received the full dose of their PRIMARY vaccine (1 or 2 jabs, depending upon the vaccine). A booster is not required to be considered "fully vaccinated" so, with this additional jab/shot, you should meet the requirements for vaccine coverage.

In the recent past, unvaccinated people could receive the green pass if they provided a negative test; the change now means that those who are unvaccinated will not be eligible for the "super green pass".

Again, US citizens have been able to use their CDC cards as the equivalent of the green pass. So, with the booster, in addition to your "full vaccination", you should not have difficulty during your travels.

Apparently they are discussing allowing boostered people regardless of when they got their booster to continue to have the green/supergreen pass:

Unfortunately, my last vaccine was from mid-September, so by the time I travel to Italy, more than 6 months will have elapsed from my last vaccine (i.e., my booster). As the rules are currently written, that is not acceptable to meet the Super Green Pass requirements.

Fingers crossed that they exempt the 6-month deadline for those who have received boosters. As of now, I can enter the country but would not be allowed to stay in a hotel or eat in a restaurant or travel on public transportation, so I would have to cancel my trip.

There are plenty of Europeans caught by the same problem, and Europeans form the bulk of their tourist industry so I am sure they will change it. The EU has tried to get all EU/Schengen countries to agree to the same rules, but some countries still go their own way.
