Travel to and Hotels in Trier

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a hotel in Trier? Also, I am flying into Frankfurt and I assume I will take a train to Trier. If you are familiar with that routing, any advice or comments will be appreciated.

Thanks!!

Larry

We are planning to visit Trier as well. A friend (German) has recommended the Eurener Hof Hotel--good restaurant as well.

If I recall, you will have to change trains to get from Frankfurt to Trier. We opted to leave Trier itself and stay in one of the multitudes of small places along the Mosel.

There are two different routings to Trier from Frankfurt; I would suggest travelling via Mainz and Koblenz, which takes you through the Rhine Gorge; here, you'll pass many riverside castles and castle ruins, the Loreley cliffs, and many attractive wine towns. The route to Trier via Saarbrücken is pretty but pales in comparison with the Rhine Valley.

I posted these comments to another thread:

Trier is underrated. It doesn't take too long to see most of the sights, though. The square and gate are impressive, but the Kaisertherman (sp?) are really neat. Most of the sights are within walking distance. We stayed at the Haus Runne, a quirky place that we enjoyed, but it is probably a little more budget than you are looking for.

Haus Runne is in walking distance from the station. We traveled the route suggested by Russ. Try to stay or stop along the Rhine and/or Mosel.

Larry,

I believe if you do a Fodors search on Trier Hotels, you will get many responses.

An alternative is to do a Google search on trier-tourism.de. It lists all of the hotels in Trier.

We recently stayed at the Hotel Villa Hugel. It's a nice property, but not convenient without a car.

Dick

I love Trier. I found that it is a short trip from the Rhine area.

When I was there I was staying in Baccharach a small town on the Rhine river. I stayed at the Pension Lettie. Our hostess was extremely informative and we made several day trips, one of which was Trier.

I am afraid that I can't give you information on where to stay in Trier but I reccomend Pension Lettie in Baccarach.
