I haven't used traveler's checks in many years. I just spent a week and a half in Switzerland with a Visa check card. I get cash periodically from an ATM for cash expenditures and use the card for meals, hotels, and train tickets.

and just so you'll get a variety of responses, when I travel in Switzerland, I take a bit in $travelers checks which I cash only at exchange places at the airport, train stations, or banks into Sfr for small expenditures, and everything else I put on my Visa credit card. <BR><BR>If you'll make sure your thread is near the top on Monday, Ursula will certainly be able to give you good Zurich info. I often check the MeteoSuisse weather site for forecasts. Ursula will also be able to orient you w/regard to your hotel. Bon Voyage. J.

I use traveller's checks and credit card. Works well for me.

Take credit card(s) and $100.00 in cash. At the end of your trip you will have a bunch of credit card receipts plus your original $100.00 in cash. Enjoy your trip.

Would forget the traveller's checks - they are actually more of an inconvenience today if anything. VISA or Mastercard will get you practically everywhere. Take about 200-300 US$ in cash. If you take taxis (though Zurich isn't so big that you'll need them; plus they're a bit expensive), ask for one that accepts credit card. Weather now is moderately warm - ca. 20-25 degrees Celcius, with more likelihood of showers and thunderstorms as we get into the mid-to-latter summer. And, believe your hotel is central. Again, distances are not great if you're worried about getting around...

Agree with the above poster. Nothing to add here.<BR>You'll be fine, CThomas! <BR>Weather is unusually unstable for July right now.<BR>Seems to last for the next few days! :o(<BR>But when it changes, it is likely to be very hot again. :o)

Hi..I've found the best answer to your $$ question changes from one month to another. We always take travelers checks & do come home with a bunch, because we can use a credit card everywhere...however, Visa, MC, etc are now charging for foreign purhases.<BR>In 1993 we were very happy that we had a gold Amex card, as we could not find a hotel room in Geneva...because we held that card, American Express called all over town for us & finally found a room. While we were at that office, someone came in for help & got none. I don't know if they any Amex card. Also we could write personal checks at the Amex office. When that commercial says they don't leave home w/o it...believe me, we do not. BTW we get free traveleres checks with it too. But your local bank should supply them free as well. Enjoy your time in Zurich. Linda
