travel time
Can anyone tell me how long is the travel time between Dijon and Beaune (in Burgundy, France) by car?

Bringing your message back up "to the top" since it is your first post here ever...
Best wishes, Rex |
I love checking out the travel times on the viamichelin websight as I will be renting a car for a week in Normandy. I'm just wondering if anyone has used them and found them to be (fairly) accurate.

I'm also going to France soon and relying on via Michelin for travel times. I don't know if they're accurate for French roads but I tried them on some British routes that I often take and they were very accurate. They definitely gave the best routes available and I was quite surprised because other engines (like mapquest) did not! |
We've found them to be pretty good; when we're not driving on the autoroutes, we tend to average about 50 km/hour. This is partly because of speed reductions for populated areas and partly because you can get stuck behind a truck or agricultural vehicle and not have a passing lane for miles. (It also assumes that you're not travelling in August.)
Be sure to familiarize yourself with French road signs and rules of the road before you leave. Sometimes these are implied--for example, you must slow down to 50 km/hr when you see the sign for a town or village, even when there is no sign warning you to reduce speed (ralentissez). Have fun. We really enjoy driving in France. |
Accuracy--viamichelin is generally pretty accurate for the average driver. I tend to drive a bit fast, so I usually get someplace a little quicker than the estimate.

Dijon to Beaune is not a very long trip, especially via the autoroute--under 40 km. I'd figure on 30-45 minutes.
