Travel theme-need suggestions for Italian music to play in background...
 

...I am helping my cousin with ideas for her wedding coming up soon, she has decided to play music in the background during the ceremony, and likes Italian....Please advise any suggestions of your favorites that really set the mood, classic and modern, anything. thank you so much in advance !

A catchy pop tune that played over-and-over in our car radio during our driving trip in Puglia and Amalfi Coast early this month was Parlo Di Te by Pago.

We actually purchased a compilation CD of current Italin hits and this song (among others in the CD) is a current favorite in my iPod.

Any Vivaldi (Italian composer with red hair who was also a priest, not that that has anything to do with anything), Scarlatti, and I'd venture into Germany with Bach's Brandenburg Concertos or Handel's Water Music. Clearly, I'm a fan of Baroque music for weddings (or any other gathering).

Puccini arias; e.g. 'Un bel di', 'O mio babbino caro' & that one from Tosca. Or just the whole of the wedding night section from 'Madama Butterfly'.

There was an excellent thread on this subject not more than a few months ago, but for the life of me, I cannot find it (and I can usually find ANYthing, especially if I posted on it, and in this case, I did).

It had references to Divo, Bocelli, Sinatra, Nino Rota, Jerry Vale and a lot of specific songs (Volare, Non Dimenticar, Arriverderci Roma)

Can anyone remember some specific people who posted on this thread?

I suggest a Frenchman with an Italian name, Stephane Grappelli. He plays the greatest jazz violin that I have ever heard. His recording of "I'm Confessin That I Love You" is appropriate at a wedding or anywhere.

That's the one. I had done a blitz run through my own posts, but I was using a "search" (Ctrl-E,F) for the word "music" - - that's why I missed it. Sometimes, there is simply no substitute for looking with one's own eyes.

If your looking for jumpin' jivin' dance music with lots of Italian influence, nobody beats Louis Prima. Get his Capitol Collector's cd, lots of fun stuff, a much of it is Italian.
For French, Puntamayo's 'French Cafe Music' is the real deal.

I mentioned it on the other music thread, but can't remember the name of the song even though Rex remembered it--the Italian song from Ocean's Twelve. It wouldn't be appropriate <i>during</i> a wedding, but afterwards it would be a smash hit!

Will you be serving pasta? Or Buschetta Or Tiramisu? Or how about Italian cookies like cantucci dipped in a nice white wine? If I heard Italian music, I would get very hungry for Italian food.
