Hi, Peter!

Here's one on church architectural style. It's immodest of me to suggest a thread I started, but there are some lyrical descriptions in the answers:

And one on saints and their relics:

PopGear, thanks for bringing this up!

Anybody knows if the thread "answers" is still around?

Hi 111op, thanks for trying to help me w/my question. I only use Google's advance search to find info on Fodor's since we all know F's search function is non-existant. If you put the fodorsguides link into your browser the 2004 Review thread I referenced will come up, it just doesn't show up as a hyperlink on the talk site. (For me to get the hyperlink I had to scroll back through my responses.)

I understand (but don't agree with) why Fodor's chooses not to allow outside links to be hyperlinked (sorry if this is not the correct terminology) and thus take you away from their site but it just seems strange that they're not set up to recognize themselves. (FYI if you use the URL the Fodor's site does come up.)

Clearly this is a LONG way of saying that I wish the search function worked, or worked better as described more eloquently earlier by BTilke.

Perhaps Bronxzilla (great name) will chime in w/an explanation. Meanwhile, I best go pack for our trip to Nice on Friday!

Sorry to be repetitious, but I agree 100% with those who have suggested that "fixing" the search engine should be top of your agenda.

In fact, I would say that for a forum of this nature it is absolutely crucial for the search function to be effective and easy to use, especially for new posters. There are certain questions & topics which are always going to crop up time & time again - "Can anyone recommend a cheap hotel in Paris, Rome, London, Venice etc. etc. etc." - but a decent search engine just might keep these old chestnuts to a minimum.

Thanks so much for mentioning my dads (FAMOUSUNCLEART) threads. He loves to write and share his stories; he has been doing it long before the internet began. He has been very sick for the last month and telling him that someone enjoyed his writing will really cheer him up!

yeadonite: oh I am so sorry to hear about your dad, but I think I got the impression on his last trip to London, that he wasn't always feeling really well all the time. Yes, I love his reports and I do hope he is on the mend. And yes please let him know how much I enjoy reading about his adventures.

Does anybody else remember the big to-do about Dr. Abate and the apartment in Rome?

I think Dr. A himself got involved, having his friends post to say what a perfect apartment it was.

I'm sure it was deleted, but while it lasted it was hilarious.

Yeadonite, tell him his fan club's missing him, and we'll be very upset indeed if he doesnt buck up, get better and come back over here again.

My favorites include all of Elvira's plus,

I was Drunk the Day My Mother Got Out of Prison

Just for fun, the Dumbest Questions Ever

and the one about proper dressing in Europe that goes into "crispy pink running suits" and scarves.

These are so old, I'm afraid they are gone forever.

I'm looking to assemble the best of the forums -- threads that are especially informative, insightful, or plain funny

Whatever happened to Fodors' intention to do this?
