travel smith suitcase

Thinking about buying the 22" flyweight. It weighs 8.5 lbs. Hate hauling luggage all over Europe. Do you think it`s light enough to make a difference? Any one else have one?

Take a look at what's available at ebags.com for fewer dollars. Lightweight luggage is definitely a good thing.

Your question got me curious so I pulled out my 22" rolling bag & weighed it on the bathroom scale. Mine weighs ~8 lbs. & cost $50 on sale at JC Pennys years ago.

Lightweight luggage is definitely a worthwhile idea, but until they make it REALLY lighter possibly not worth the pricetag?

Very interesting. I have one of the original TravelPro rollaboards, 26" that I used quite often years back. Stopped using it because I felt it weighed too much - 7-1/2 lbs - when empty. But from the above posts, that TravelPro was a lightweight in comparison. Nowadays I use either a 26" or 28" rolling duffle, both of which weigh less then 7-lbs and hold more then that TravelPro. For places where soft-side only luggage is required (for intra-country light aircraft), use a 26" duffle weighing between 3- to 4-lbs.

Agree with Underhill - check out ebags.com for good selection and great prices.

Just got back today from a 10 day land trip and 13 day cruise.

Last year went 60 days with the same 2 bags.

2-$20 - 29'' rolling duffel bags (and 2 softside carryon size bags). The bags only weigh about 2 lbs. apiece - so the weight is in the items.

I reinforce the duffels with colored duct tape ( not grey, ha ) about 1/3 in on both sides. Really makes the softsiders stronger and is easy to spot. I cut small pieces of plastic to cover the zippers, so the sticky tape won't gunk up the zippers.
