Nina, why aren't you stuffing your purse into the carryon or the backpack while boarding?
|
Has anyone used any of the products from pb-travel? They have pillows, blankets, etc.

Travelnut, My carryon is an Eagle Creek Wheelie, and 'my purse' is actually an Eagle Creek tote bag, that slips over the handle. It contains my medicine, glasses, fabulous jewels (not like Lindsey Lohan's though), travel notes, my book, a magazine, water, in a side compartment, eye make up (no mascara this time), my diabetic kit and supplies, toothbrush & toothpaste - although not this time, and other 'personal' things that I couldn't afford to lose on my trip. My clothes are in the wheelie.
The small nylon backpack, folds into itself, and is about 3" x 4" when folded. It is fairly small and the back pillow fills it up almost entirely. I can barely stuff the tube type neck pillow into it, but absolutely nothing else. There are no outside pockets. It very thin nylon. It is I think the original Rick Steves day pack. I've had, and used it extensively for about 25 years, and it still looks like new. I can't wear a regular backpack, my back won't stand the weight. A few months ago some discs in my neck collapsed and I recently finished physical therapy. This will be the first trip since that happened and so I am being even more careful than usual about sitting in a comfortable position. I'll try to move around the cabin as much as possible. The therapist told me not to sit for longer than 30 minutes for the rest of my sitting life - so this ought to be fun. "Hey Lady, sit down, what are you some kind of Nervous Nelly???" Fortunately we always upgrade to Business, with our FF miles, and will have our usual side bulkhead seats, so I won't be climbing over anyone or bumping the seats in front of us. Normally during a 10 - 12 hour flight, I sleep for a only a few hours if I'm lucky, so I'm hoping with the 1st Class Sleeper and the Cabin Cuddler, I may luck out and get a few extra hours. If the 1st Class Sleeper works out, I will never have to bring my two pillows again - so I am kind of excited about the possibility. DH took a close look at the picture and thinks that my height, 4-11, will make it uncomfortable for me - it looks as if it pushes your body forward and he thinks my the seat will hit a weird place on my legs. A reviewer on Magellan's site, said that it she too had short legs, and it was very uncomfortable for her. I am going to try it, you never know. Don't ever ever grown up to be short - it is a real pain in the arse!!!!! (and other places too) DH has back problems too, and wears a larger, much heavier backpack daily. He says that it actually helps his back. I really do try to pack only what's needed, but you know how that goes! Nina |
So Travelnut, now you know why I don't put my purse in my backpack. That was the question - wasn't it????

Nina,
I have only used the 1st Class Sleeper on a plane. My guess would be that it would not be comfy at home, but might possibly work in a car. Good Luck! |
Yep, I see it's a "capacity" issue :)
I was only wondering, as I take on my 21" rollie and a smallish backpack, and stick my purse down into that so it won't be 'counted'. I hope you can find a way to be comfortable. |
Forgot to mention the fact that because my travel pillow is actually a down pillowcase, I am able to squeeze/squish it into my carryon and it takes up a minimal amount of space.

I went to TJ Maxx yesterday and found a terrific baby blanket: very soft pile on one side, satin on the other. $5.99.
It's just large enough to roll up around my neck, but small enough that I fit it in a medium ziplock. |
Just wanted to say I bit the bullet yesterday and ordered (Magellans) the 1st Class Sleeper (actually 2 -- one for me and one for my sister).
I will let you know how each of us likes it, and I can't wait to hear how everyone else did with their "sleep aids" too. I think I've made such a big deal about preparations for sleeping (1st Class Sleeper, eye mask, Restoril, circulation socks, etc.), that I'll be too "nervous" to sleep! I think I've turned into a "biddy" and didn't even know it! :) Thanks again to all and good luck on your travels! |
Be careful, celianne. There was a "swooping old biddy" alert on this board a few days ago - but the editors cleaned it up. :-)

Celiaanne and Starrsville, I am beginning to think that I too belong on the old biddys list.
I'm sitting here right now about to order the Cabin Cuddler blanket and the 1st Class Sleeper. I've decided to with the Cuddler (partially because of the cute name .... just kidding), mainly because it opens up like a loooong sweater, so that you can read or eat with it on while the lower part of your body and your feet are still covered, if you are cold. When you use an airline blanket, (or any other flat blanket), you cover yourself from the front and it isn't long enough to cover your feet, and it has to be removed, at least from your chest and shoulders, if you want to eat or read. That has always been my main problem with airline blankets, not the just the yuckiness. Cheapskate me is going to order from Tamperseal.com because of the free shipping and handling. No I don't work for them - I considered it, but the daily commute from San Francisco to Tampa, was just too much. :-)) The gas alone would have bankrupted me. A favor please, if anyone writes any future posts about the 1st Class Sleeper or the Cabin Cuddler, expressing an opinion, either pro or con, would you/me please start a new thread, using either name in the title, so that it will be easier to find. I just received my Landsend travel pillow and it is exactly what I was hoping for. I can use it on the plane and I can use it to soften up hard, flat hotel pillows. I leave in two weeks and am very excited to try it out. I'll let you know how it goes. Barb

I think skymall.com has the first class sleeper for about $29.00. Anybody ever use one of these?

Yes...see above.

As a flight attendant and frequent traveler I highly recommend bringing your own pillow and blanket. You really don't want to know where the airline pillows and blankets have been or who has used them previously. Trust me, they are NOT always fresh. Ear plugs are also a must have item.
