Travel photos to share ...
 

My wife and I have consolidated many of our travel photos into Kodak albums. If you would like to see any of them, please email me at: [email protected]

Fodorites have been most helpful to us in our planning over the years and we would be more than happy to share some photos with you. We also have travelogs from most of our trips if interested.

Here are our photo albums:
Paris, Rome, Prague & Budapest, northern Italy (Milan, Florence, Lucca, Pisa, San Gimignano, Siena, Venice, Verona, Lake Como), Russia, Prague & Budapest, London, Greece, China, Egypt, Spain (Madrid, Barcelona, Toledo), Israel & Jordan.

Also, some islands: Hawaii, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, St. Thomas/St. John, and Cancun.

If you are even semi-computer savy, you could create your own photo website. It is not that hard these days or that expensive. I have written my own photo gallery software (I am a photographer) but many people use free software called Gallery to display/organize your photos on a website.

GoDaddy.com offers cheap web hosting plans that have some sort of Photo gallery software included but you could use Gallery instead.

Anyway, rolling your own has advantages. For one, there are fewer limits on how many photos you can display. Also, no one will have to login to see your photos or anything. Yes it will cost you a few bucks a month but for some it may be worth it.

I have tried to send Kodak links to friends but they could not open them. It works when I've tried sending them to myself but for some reason when I've sent them to others they can't open. This is why I've made my posting at least at this time to have someone send me an email directly.

I may try a photo website down the road but for the time being I'm going about it this way unless I can figure out how to get others to open up my links.

I,too, just set up my first couple of albums with Kodak Gallery and have loved them. Exept, I have also had a problem with people being able to open the links. I can, but they can't. So, I just send them the photos by email, but it does make it a little harder to share.

I really like the Pbase.com when it comes to hosting photographs - for 23$ a year you get 300MB of storage, unlimited traffic and excellent (and ad-free) interface, which you can fully customize to your personal needs. I've used them for over 3 years and always been very happy with their service.

When a friend of mine sent me an invitation to see her Kodak album I had to register on the website to be able to open it.
What I do with my page, I just copy the link to my page of pictures. (the one I gave earlier) This is probably what you've done with yours. If I send a invitation, you'll have to register.

No way I will pay to register on a photo website!

Why not ? You pay for all kinds of services, why not pay for photography hosting (especially if it's very good) ?

Why pay when you're happy with the one you have for free? I consider normal paying to get paper photos but otherwise... and I've never seen any paying French websites!

If you're happy with what you have for free - then it's OK, I guess :-) I thought that you are against paying for photo website in general, as a rule - guess I was wrong :-)

Yes, when I send an invitation from KodakGallery sharing my pictures, people have to sign in, but you can also provide a link like Ira suggested.

I also looked a pbase before deciding to go with kodakgallery, but I found kodak easier for me to use - but, it doesn't have as many options as pbase which offers a lot, especially to more experienced photographers. I liked both, though.

This is an irritating trick on Kodak's part, and one which has made me switch to Flikr, a vastly more friendly and well designed photo hosting site (and also free). You do not have to register to see someone's photos on Kodak, provided:

1. The person doing the inviting unclicks the tiny box near the bottom of the invitation which says "Require friends to sign in to view and save your photos.". When you click on 'why [make people log in]' they say:

Your friends' visits will be recorded in your guestbook. At any time, you can view your guestbook to see which friends have seen your photos and on what date.

Your albums will be saved in your friends' accounts under "My Friends' Albums" for viewing and sharing later (as long as the album is not deleted). Even if you don't require your friends to sign in, they will still have the opportunity to sign in (or create an account and sign in if they don't have one).

2. When the invitee uses the link (even without a login requirement), he will get the login page at Kodak. Notice at the bottom, in small type, is the option to "View Photos without signing in" (or "Create an Account Later", depending on whether it thinks you have an account there). Click on this and you should be taken to the photos.

It is all unnecessary and annoying, a complicated and egregiously confusing trick to get more people to sign up.

I always forget that 'c'. Flikr.com should be avoided, its nothing, just trying to piggyback on Flickr's popularity.
