travel options from Nice to Munich...

My sister and I would like to take the train from Nice, France to Munich, Germany in early July, one way. Can anyone offer suggestions for companies to contact? Eurail does not do one way tickets. I tried the France train website SNCF, but for some reason results were not available.
We have a tentative flight for $142, but thinking a train would be a nice break from flights. Also, might a train be cheaper?
Thanks for any help, much appreciated.

Have you noticed how long that train ride is? The fastest option is 12.5 hours and involves 3 connections. Are you ready to give up an entire day?

For that long on a train, I'd want to sit in 1st class. Even in 1st class, it would probably be cheaper than flying but perhaps not cheaper by as much as you think.

Yes if just wanting to go straight thru it's a long slog with multiple changes of train- may cost much more than flying. But for rail info check www.seat61.com for advice and booking - and for general info www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

And yes for that long a trip go first class.

Yep - Some train journeys definitely ARE a nice break. This is not one of them. It is a looooooong slog with multiple changes. IMO the train just doesn't make sense - and flying could very well cost less.

The cheapest ticket on voyages.scnf.com is 239 E. (travel time 12:32). As a rule, over very long distances flying is (much) cheaper.

Trenitalia charges some 150 EUR for the same (standard fare).
Direct NCE - MUC flights are not particularly cheap. But you may fly with eurowings to Stuttgart and go on from there by bus or train.
