Travel Itinerary suggestions for Nice and Grenoble!

Bonjour!

I will be visiting France next February and need some travel plan suggestions about the places worth visiting in Nice and Grenoble. I will be staying in Nice for a week and the next 2 weeks in Grenoble. Since I'm coming for a project work, my days are gone and I will have evenings and nights to do the exploring and the weekends too of course. I do not have many conditions about the type of tourist spots but want to cover major and many of them in as much less time as possible.

For the first week, I'll be staying in Nice and hence want to cover most of the French Riviera. Please suggest some places as I have limited time and money as well. I heard the nightlife in Nice is very good? Is it?

For the next 2 weeks, I will be in Grenoble where I plan to cover most of the Alps and if possible a trip to Geneva as well. Is it any good? Or should I opt for Turin or Milan? I know there will be travel but I do want to cover 2 of these 3 cities. Or if there is any better then please do suggest me. The alps are there to hike and hence looking forward to that.

You can give me more suggestions as well as I will be visiting France again in April probably for the same project work. There is some light in life at last! Thanks in advance

I don't think it is possible to visit Turin and Milan if you are sleeping in Grenoble. How did you plan to get there? In February, traveling through the mountains by car can be quite difficult. The trains would take too long.

Have looked up train connections from Grenoble to other places?

This might help you make plans:

If you will have colleagues for your project who live in Nice and Grenoble, maybe the will have a car and have a little time to take a day trip with you.

I am not sure where you can go hiking in February in the Alps. If you like to hike, you can hike in some places near Nice on the weekend if it is dry. You could take a train to Italy and go hiking. You might want to visit Italy while you are in Nice. It is only one hour away on the train. What might fun on a sunny weekend day is to take the train to Ventimiglia and then a bus to Apricale and have lunch and hike around It would give you a real taste of Italy.

Be sure whenever you plan a day trip or night trip where you are crossing national borders that you have all your travel documents with you in a safe place, and the contact numbers for your colleagues and hotel.

Nice: la Turbie - Gorbio - Ste-Agnese - Castellar as well as the lower Roia and Bevera valleys are real hiking paradises in February.
Around Grenoble, there may be snow. A train trip to Turin makes only sense if you start the evening before and sleep at Turin: Grenoble dp 16.38 - Turin ar 20.18; Turin dp 17.35 - Grenoble ar 21.04.
Day trip to Geneva: Grenoble dp 6.54 or 7.54 - Geneva ar 9.00 or 10.00; Geneva dp 16.42 or 18.42 - Grenoble ar 19.04 or 21.04
There ae also buses between Grenoble and Geneva airport.

Milan is not a great day trip. Train is 5 to 6 hours each way at best. And the shortest schedules take up a good part of the day (early or late night trains take much longer).

And I would think hiking near Grenoble is not much of an option. Likely to be at least chilly and possibly cold with possibility of snow.
