I am planning a week in Wales summer 2003 with children ages 11 and 14. Any recommendations on what to do other than the beach? Thanks.

If your children are into coastal walks and wildlife it's a wonderful place for it. You can also take a boat to some of the offshore islands. On Skoma for example the birds are fairly unafraid of humans.<BR><BR><BR><BR>

When my kids were 13 and 15, we spent two nights in Hay-on-Wye, the town where every commercial business (including the movie theater and the local castle) has been turned into a used book store. If you're booklovers, this is a must.<BR><BR>Near Cardiff is the Museum of Welsh Life, which has villages that re-create Welsh life over various eras. I've been to lots of living-history museums, but never before one that went all the way back to Neolithic times!<BR><BR>

We took our 2 kids a few years ago when they were in their early teens. They absolutely loved the castles--we went to Caernarfon and Conwy, and maybe one more. We also loved Bodnant Gardens--actually went back for a second visit the next day. Have a great trip!

Hi Ayla...<BR><BR>Snowdonia and North Wales in general is a beautiful area. There is so much to do and see...steam railways, castles, etc. As suggested by Sylvia...check out the Visit Wales site!

We are fortunate enough to have friends in Wrexham that we will be visiting in early May for the first time. We met them in Queenstown New Zealand in 1999, and rendezvoused again in Edinburgh a year later. They speak lovingly of North Wales and we are anxiously looking forward to our visit.<BR>Thanks for the web site tip as well as the additional information.<BR>John

All the museams in Cardiff are free, so this consists of the Museam of Welsh Life (aka St Fagans) , National Museam and Gallery of Wales, and Big Pit, which is just outside Cardiff. <BR><BR>There is pleanty of things to see and do in the city, not forgetting shopping in the many Victorian arcades, and the modern Queens and Capitol Arcade. There is also the Bay, which has Techniquest (a childrens Science Museam) and many other things to do.<BR><BR>I hope you enjoy your stay in Cardiff, and have a great time!

I agree with Ginny that Snowdonia is a wonderful place to take children. You have mountains, lakes, and seashore to choose from. The old steam railways are fun (try the trip from Porthmadog to Ffestiniog, and the trip up Mt Snowdon). There are so many other things to do in the area, I wouldn't know where to begin.

Hi Ayla,<BR>Greetings from sunny Cardiff.<BR>Not sure of your route but here is some stuff from South Wales.Some of them may have been mentioned already.<BR>Castles:<BR>Cardiff, Caerphilly,Chepstow,Caernarfon,and Castle Coch near cardiff.<BR>Manorbier (scene of TV adaptation of Lion the With and the wardrobe)<BR>Museums:<BR>Museum of Welsh Life St Fagans, National Museum of Wales Cardiff,<BR>Big Pit.<BR>Other Places to see:<BR>Cardiff Bay<BR>Millenium stadium tour<BR>Brecon Beacons,Pembrokeshire and Snowdonia National Parks.<BR>Cardiff shopping center is fantastic.<BR>For the Kids:<BR>Oakwood park Narberth West Wales<BR>Techniquest<BR>Caerleon Roman fort and Village/Museum<BR>Water sports:<BR>Saundersfoot, Tenby.<BR>The 'Endeavour' replica of Capt Cookes ship is currently at Cardiff Bay but I am not sure for how long.<BR>Visit Roath Park in Cardiff for a leisurely row on the lake.<BR>Not sure what your interests are but if there is anything specific then let the forum know.<BR>Muck
