We are traveling to Turkey in Sept. with friends who do not want to got to Cappadocia, which I do not want to miss after reading this forum. We can leave them at either Bodrum or Antalya. What is the best mode of transprotation to get to Cappadocia? We would fly from Cappadocia back to Istanbul. I don't know if they have one way rental cars between these destinations so thinking bus or train. Also is two days adequet time for this area?

Two days in Cappadocia would be enough. Your friends are going to miss out on one of the highlights of Turkey!
Flying from either Bodrum or Antalya may be the best way - try Turkish, Onur, Pegasus or SunExpress.

There are sunexpress and pegasus flights to Kayseri or Nevsehir in cappadocia from Izmir and Antalya. Not from Bodrum.

The earlier you get the tickets, the easier they are to find and the cheaper they are.

You have many more options for flights from Cappadocia to Istanbul, in terms of departuses and airlines.

Fly to maximize your time in Cappadocia. We loved every place we visited, but I have to say Cappadocia was one of the most unique places I've ever been. Absolutely amazing. Two days is the absolute minimum I'd stay there. Here's a link to my trip report; you can read about what we did. Our hotel in Urgup was one of the highlights of the trip, too.

vicky...if you can , handcuff your friends and get them aboard the flight...if not, don't ever show them your pics, or they'll kick themselves! Flying from Antalya is a good idea. If you can get an open jaw, then fly back to Istanbul from Kayseri or Nevsehir. (in Cap). Kayseri is about 40 miles from Urgup..nevsehir much closer.
I can arrange to have Other Chelebi (above) fly down to Cap to escort you around. He's a bit puffery-inclined but he knows the area. He's very cheap....a few copies of MAD magazine should do it.

Otherchelebi only want tourists to visit places no tourist has ever been before.

I can see three days in Cappadocia but not two. You would be kicking yourself on your way out of town.

I heard someone mention the Mad magazine.

And also, apparently some canadians are coming out of hibernation rather early.

By the way, cappadocia has some excellent facilities for very comfortable hibernation, which are also available to short term visitors.

Adu, tower and Cold usually have very good advice. I would recommend anyone to follow them. (all the way down to presents of Mad magazines)

Thank you Other. My advice is always excellent, if only I could remember what it was.

The reason why Other mentions hibernation is because you can stay in a cave in Cappadocia. (Actually Other is a citizen of the Hiber Nation and is rarely awake.) Stu Tower recommended Esbelli Evi to us and it was one of the most sophisticated hotels without pretense at which we have stayed. I cannot recommend it enough. The rooms are carved from the porous material into the hills. Suha has purchased and joined 23 separate properties into one interesting establishment. One serious warning. If you have trouble negotiating stairs, so not stay there because the rooms are not attached like a traditional hotel and there much up and down.

Capapdocia has the most unusual topography I have ever encountered and was one of the highlights of our trip to Turkey last October. We spent four days in the region and was worth the time.

Other chelebi...you are indeed a magnetic manipulator... just one comment and you capture the thoughts of Cold, Adu and yours almost truly. Vicky...pay sparse attention to these comments...we've had a running gun battle going on...but we do speak from some good experiences. As long as Other C. manages to keep his citizenship, it almost pays to listen to him.

Thank you all for your help! Fodorites always come to the rescue! We well fly to Cappadocia and have a minumum of two days there. I also will immediately book one of the cave hotels.
