Travel Help Requested

Planning a surprise trip for my hubby to Grand Prix in September. Can someone help with the following...

Will be staying in Como at Hotel Metropole Suisse and need to get from Malpensa Airport to there and then from there to the race in Monza. Would like to take the train but have no idea how far away we are and whether it is convenient or not.

Should we rent a car???

Will also be staying for another 10 days and would like recommendations as to where to go and what to do. We both like to cycle and take it easy.

Don't want to pack all of italy into a few days. Would prefer to see a little in a short time and return to explore more.

Thanks in Advance.

There is train service Malpensa to Como with one change of trains before Milan the easiest and fastest way is to take airport buses that leave about hourly direct to Como

google the Malpensa airport site for details

I've done both ways and the bus is infintely more comfy and fast though perhaps a bit more expensive as those local trains are ridiculously cheap

There are about hourly trains from Como's S Gaiovanni station (on main trenitalia line Lugano-Chiasso-como-monza-milan) that take about 30 mins to monza

note that many trains on that line may not stop at Monza so be sure before boarding that yours does

I have no idea where the racecourse is in relation to monza or its train station but certainly buses or taxis would connect the two

there may well be bus service Como-Monza as well

You will probably get more replies with a post which specifies Italy in the title.

Fodor's should get rid of that stupid and confusing search scroll down box listing the countries. Newbies are always thinking that it is a file category of the site.
