Travel guide for teenager?

My 14 year old nephew is going to Europe for the first time this summer. I would love to get him a travel guide that is appropriate for his age. Any ideas?

Hi

This thread's about London but should give you some clues - http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=35169590

Let's Go Travel Guides are written for students - although usually for the later teens.

I think for teens/college age the Lonely Planet, Timeout, Let's Go and Reid Guides.

My daughter has always found the Knopf Mapguides to be very helpful. They focus on specific cities and are small and easy to carry. They are broken up into neighborhoods with really easy to read fold out maps for each neighborhood. Each section lists historic sites, restauarants, shops, cafes, cool spots per area. It is not an overwhelming book like some of the other books - teens can't handle too much information. They just need to find their way around.

Hi MS,

Is he going on a group tour?

Does it need to cover all of Europe? Or which specific cities?

Let's Go or Rick Steves are both good. Rough Guide and Lonely Planet as well.

I also think Let's Go and Timeout are good for younger folks, but I don't know of any guidebooks written for high school students. So those guidebooks may talk of bars and places like that a lot.

MTV has paired up with Frommer's and created a series of guidebooks. I'm sure you can order them through Amazon, Barnes & Noble.com or Borders.com if you cannot find them at your local bookstore.

You don't mention if he is going to a specific country - they do have guidebooks to certain countries (i.e., Ireland, Italy, U.K.), but there is also one that covers all of Europe.

You might also tell him to download some travel podcasts from iTunes. MTV has some on select cities in Europe.
