Wayne,
Take the train. www.trenitalia.it is the train's website where you can see schedules, prices, etc.
Wayne,

Relax, it's an easy trip!

You take the shuttle bus from Marco Polo airport to the Venezia Mestre train station where there are frequent departures for Rome.
Web site for the shuttle bus:
http://www.atvo.it/eng/airport.php?ld=index_fly.php&id=1

The fastest and nicest trains are called Eurostar and are a little more expensive than the intercity trains.

Just buy your ticket at the station as you never know when your plane is going to land... you could purchase in advance on
www.trenitalia.com
Check the site out for train schedules and print out the train connections you're most likely to take - that way you can show them to the teller at the ticket window and he'll know exactly what you want.

Buon viaggio!
Andre

I see there are 2 train stations in Venice. Is Maestre the one that is most centrally located? Thanks!

Lyn,

MESTRE is on the mainland and convenient to the airport, NOT the city.

If you're travelling to/from Venice proper, you want to use SANTA LUCIA(S.L.) station.

Andre

Andre - thanks for the information about the two locations. Looks like we want the S.L. station for sure.
