travel from split to zagreb
What is the best way to travel from Split to Zagreb?
|
Rent a car in Split and take the rather new Motorway directly to Zagreb. Stop at Plitvice Lakes National Park, preferably for overnight (Hotel Jezero)...about half way from Split to Zagreb. The park is not to be missed IMO. I first saw it in 1979 with virtually no western tourists, and was just as awed a few years back...seeing it in the snow. Sixteen lakes cascading from one into the other. I'll toss some pix in here for you.

There's a daily direct daytime train, a relaxing journey on a scenic rail route in a modern train, avoiding the horrible ugly motorway.
Or a direct sleeper train, saves a hotel bill and very time-effective. The sleeping-car has 1 2 and 3 bed compartments available, with washbasin. Check train times at http://www.hzpp.hr/Default.aspx?sec=282 and just book at the station. Easy! |
How long does it take?

....avoiding the horrible ugly motorway.
My you have a colorful (and unnecessary) way of expressing yourself. Personally I found that motorway to be one the best engineered, scenic motorways of anywhere I had been...light traffic, pleasant drive..and how else would one be able to enjoy incomparable Plitvice other than by car (or bus)? |
If you're not in a hurry a good way to travel is by bus. Isn't expensive, you can relax and enjoy the scenery. Bus ticket on the route Zagreb-Split is 20-25 euros, the trip takes about 6-7 hours. If you do not have time to travel so long, you can go by plane, travel time is about 45 minutes, and the price of a trip from Split to Zagreb is about 60 euro.
