Travel from Rome to Todi(Umbria)
We are travelling from Rome to Todi......is it better to go by train or bus?
|
If you want to go direct vbus would be the only option as Todi is not served by Trenitalia trains from Rome - it is served by a sideline non-Trenitalia rail line of little use to most becausae buses are a better and quicker option IME - so by train say to Assisi or Foligno and then by buses, which in Umbria IME run frequently.
I took a bus to Todi from Peruga but there should be buses from Foligno or Assisi that would be quicker I think. Google SITA buses Todi or Umbria. |
There are almost hourly trains from Rome to Terni (about 6€ - 1 hour) where you can change for train to Todi (hourly trains - 40 minutes). There is a Sulga bus from Rome to Todi, but only once a day I think.

Ancona-Falconara-Foligno-Perugia-St. P. San Giovanni. Ponte San Giovanni-Todi. For those arriving from the South line: Roma-Orte-Terni-Todi. L'Aquila-Rieti-Terni-Todi. Terni-Todi. |
It appears some of the FCO/Perugia buses also stop. You would have to catch it at Rome Tiburtina station. It's not that frequent (just a couple of buses per day stop at Todi, not all) so might be easier to take a train.

I've ridden the private (non-Trenitalia) train to Todi and it ranks amongst the rankest most uncomfortable train ride I've ever ridden and moves at a snail's pace and stops at every little hamlet - the windows were mercilessly covered over with graffit as were many of the seats.
I also took a bus over the same route one way and the bus was really nice -plus went thru the heart of towns, unlike the train, slicing thur inudstrial detritus often. |
The Todi train station is also one of the very worst and filthiest I have seen in Europe - a crude shelter as I remember it (several years ago) way down at the bottom of the hill Todi regally crowns - buses take you up to ner the top of the hill.
