Travel from Rome to Sorrento
I'm going to Rome fo rmy honeymoon in early September and am interested in traveling to Sorrento for a few days to get out of the busy city. Neither one of us has been there before, nor do we speak the language. How hard is it to navigate the trains/buses and does anyone have any suggestions for the route to take?

Hi Terri - You can reach Sorrento easily by train via Naples.
Take the train from Roma Termini to Napoli Centrale (- 1hr 45' approx), - then follow signs downstairs for the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento (- 1 hr approx). For timetables see: www.trenitalia.it (Rome-Naples trains) www.massalubrense.it/circum.htm (Circumvesuviana) Alternatively there is a bus service (- operator: Marozzi) from Rome (- Roma Tiburtina) direct to Sorrento. For departure times/ fares see: http://www.marozzivt.it/ Hope this helps ... Steve |
Good advice from SJ.

Great directions the trains to Sorrento will be to your left around the corner. There is a ticket stand just before you get there runs about 3.5e each.
Do not go downstairs in front of where the trains pull in. Its 2 hours from Rome to Naples on the ES get 2nd class tickets seats are the same. |
You don't have to be fluent, but do learn the basic polite phrases. Good morning, good evening, please, thank you...
