Travel from Romania to Turkey

Choosing between a slow train from Bucharest to Istanbul and a cheap flight.

I think there must be some cheap flights? I haven't found them. The latest that I found today was $168.39 one-way. This was on Tickets-To-Europe that some one suggested on Fodor's.

I've already checked Kayak.com and high there too. Our trip will be 9/08.

Thanks for any suggestions. The train doesn't sound like much fun - having to disembark in the middle of the night at the Turkish Border to get a visa scares this lady!!!

You might try the ferry MV Arielle from Constanta to Istanbul. See http://tinyurl.com/3aq2nm. It looks pretty nice.

Thanks for the idea, Hopscotch, but we won't be as far north as Constanta.

We will be traveling through villages in Romania and then ending up in Bucharest to make our next leg to Istanbul.

The cheapest that I have found is Blue Air, but it appears that you have to have a RT ticket, and of course we just need a one-way.

Any new viewers? I would appreciate any ideas.

You won't be the first to throw out the return ticket.

well, I hadn't thought of that - but it's certainly an idea!

You have to buy them separately - strange to have to buy round-trip.

Am curious about what you decided, Brahmama. We, too are headed to Romania then Istanbul and need one way transportation. Did you buy air? Did you find anything less than $168? I suppose you were so much earlier that I will be paying twice as much!

Hi,
We're doing the opposite..starting in Istanbul, then Romania. I saw the ferry, but no information on how to book. I googled the company and nothing came up. I'm afraid I'll have to call.
So, where are you staying in Bucharest, Brahmama? We are so confused since we don't have a sense of the city and where the true center is. We are thinking of starting in iasi and renting a car, going south through Transylvania to Bucharest..Please share your plan. Thanks so much
