Travel from Glasgow to Dordogne Region

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to organize travel for friends who are coming to visit us in the Dordogne (near Sarlat) this summer.

They will be in Scotland on vacation from Canada and are having a hard time finding good flights.

We've checked ryanair, flybe, easyjet, etc. with no good options.

Any suggestions for the best way for them to get around? Should they fly to Scotland first then on to France? Or maybe they should fly from Canada to France?

I know this is not a very specific question, but if you are looking for similar flights and have found something good, please let me know.

Thank yoU!

There won't be an "good" options because you're out there in no-man's land. Nearest airports are not major ones - Bordeaux, Tolouse - and Scotland isn't exactly a hub, either.

There are flights like

Liverpool - Carcassonne (Ryanair)

Manchester - Bordeaux (bmibaby)

Manchester - Toulouse (bmi)

Birmingham - Toulouse (Flybe)

that require quite a bit of driving at either end but still can save time and money.

Get busy with www.skyscanner.net and an atlas with a really good index (or another browser window with google) - keep the search options as non-specific as possible and see what comes up.

How are they travelling round Scotland?

If in a car, there's any number of flights to Bergerac (about as to Sarlat as you can get) from Liverpool or Leeds: admittedly both 3 hours' drive from Glasgow, but not at all an onerous drive. Ditto Limoges, which is also a great deal handier for Sarlat than Toulouse or Carcassonne.

Getting to these places from Canada's not easy: Bergerac has flights ONLY to English airports: there are no domestic flights. Of those English airports, only Birmingham (BHX) has any transatlantic flights, and to get to other airports in the Sarlat area from North America, you mostly have to change airports in Paris - though there are some same-airport connections with cheapo airlines from Canada at Gatwick, and a couple at Manchester. The most painless route from Canada is probably to fly to CDG, TGV to Bordeaux theh the local train back into the Dordogne.

Personally, I'd prefer a fast dash down the M6 to Liverpool. How else can your friends proudly announce that the car they're driving is soon going to Speke?

Try Canada-Dublin-Edinburgh-Dublin-Toulouse/Lyon-Dublin-Canada on Aer Lingus. DUB is easy to transfer through, and Aer Lingus' prices are competitive with Ryanair et al, while still haveing coordinated schedules etc.
