Travel from Geneva to Munich
First time traveler,
1.How hard is it to travel by train between these two cities?
2.Could it be done in a day?
3.How much english is spoken in Munich, cab drivers, citizens, etc.?
4.In Munich I'm interested in a tour of history, like the WWII era, anyone know of a good one?
5.If you had to stay in Munich overnight, where would you stay for just one night, if you were traveling alone?

Hi tanksgtrich,
You can get the schedules for the train trip at the Swiss rail site
www.rail.ch (in English).
Just enter
Departure: Geneva
Destination: Munich
And be sure to use the European format for the dates (day/month/year).
You'll see that the journey takes eight hours with two, three, five, or six changes, depending on which connection you choose.
Hope you get the rest of your info soon!

You can also use the GermanRail site to check schedules.
depending on timings and if you are willing to leave Geneva EARLY, you can do the trip with only ONE change.
I have never ever had problems with cab drivers and English in my several trips to Munich but other folks' experiences may have differed.
Depending on budget for one night I would probably stay somewhere in the Marienplatz area.
What time of year? Conrary to what some will tell you, I strongly recommend an air conditioned hotel if you are going to be there in the Summer months. Munich is VERY humid at that time of year.

I'm guessing you'll be heading to Germany for R&R? You might want to see if there are any MWR tours available for Munich. I know there are several out of the Eidelweiss Lodge, but that's about 60 miles away. They might have some suggestions for you, though.
