Travel from Delft to Otterlo then to Bruges HELP
 

We had read that we just had to take a train then a bus to get from Delft to Otterlo but I went on a trip planner that the hotel sent me and there are 6 to 9 changes totally 5 and a half hours. We will be going from Otterlo to Bruges. Is there any easier was to do this travel?

Is there another place to stay that gives us easy transportation to the Kroller Muller Museum?

Sorry I can't help with logistics but that looks like a wonderful museum. If you do find an easy way to get there and then to Brugge please post what you've found.

The minimum number of changes is 3 - Rotterdam to Apeldoorn by train, then 2 buses -but that takes 2 and half hours!

You could stay in Apeldoorn of course and just get the buses, which will take 45 minutes, or in Utrecht when you have 2 changes, and a journey of an hour, or in Rotterdam, again 2 changes and a journey time of 2 hours.

There really is no easy way to get to Kroller Muller and then to Brugge in one day.

I think you need to have a rethink of your itinerary.

Best way to to take a train Ede-Weiningen (sp?) from where it is a short bus ride to the museum - this was the way recommended to me by train information office in Amsterdam and it seems the best way to go. You change buses in Otterloo for the museum or you can ride free bikes the several miles thru the park to the museum.

Ede-Wageningen Pal. That is the route you take from Amsterdam, or Utrecht. The Apeldoorn route is easier from Delft.

Milliebest I see from your other post you plan to stay in Otterlo - I would choose somewhere else such as Utrecht. Otterlo is a very small place and Utrecht would make it easier to then go on to Brugge. If you avoid Thalys trains it will be cheaper.

No way, the Kroller Mueller is worth a whole day, even if you don't take a bike ride. Get there early - stay late.

Otterloo seems to perfect place to stay for the KM, it's very handy and it looks like they have a nice little hotel there. We went to the KM from Amesterdam and I regret not having stayed in Otterloo for a couple of nights.

Seems trains from Delft to Ede-W take about 20 minutes less than taking a train to Apeldoorn and the route from Delft would naturally go thru Utrecht via Den Hague? I may be confusing where Apeldoorn is located but I thought it was farther from Otterloo/Kr Muller than Ede-W?

If it is then going by train 20 minutes quicker to Ede-W than to Apeldoorn would make Ede-W a better station?

I'll have to look at a map and see where Apeldoorn is - if it is closer to Otterloo then it would make sense but coming from Delft you would naturally go via Utrecht, according to www.bahn.de - German Railways site I always use for schedules of any train in Europe.

Oh for goodness sakes! The mere fact that someone is giving you advice and hasn't looked at a map should tell you, OP, that you need to go to the KM website and get directions from them.

My advice about Ede was based on personal experience after asking just the same question at the Amsterdam train station and even if coming from Delft Ede-W is the best station to head to - I said I did not know how close Apeldoorn was and would have to look at a map and did and Apeldoorn is farther from Otterloo than Ede-W station is and Ede-W is quicker to reach by train from Delft than Apeldoorn.

The K-M web site will surely say the same (as well as giving bus info from Arnhem - I went back via way of Arnhem just to vary my day trip route.

Thank you all for trying to help. I will look into all your suggestions. I was also thinking of renting a car. Our itinerary is:

Amsterdam- 4 nights
Delft - 3 nights (Do Harlaam, Rotterdam, and Hague)
Otterlo-2 nights
Bruges- 3 nights
Antwerp- 2 nights
Ghent- 2 nights
Brussels- 4 nights

So I thought maybe I would rent a car leaving Delft and return it in Bruges but that is crossing country lines. I have to look into it.

I just went I kayack to see about renting a car in Delft and returning it to Bruges but no company does both places. I think it's because it's different countries. Can anyone suggest a place in the Netherlands to drop a car off and take the train to Bruges? Oh, my head is spinning. Oh, the KM website says there is a taxi from Apeldoorn or Ede-W for E 10 each way which seems pretty reasonable but the site is in Dutch.

Forget Apeldoorn - take the train to Ede-W - closer to park than Apeldoorn and bus direct from there to Otterloo - that is if coming from Delft. Apeldoorn is a detour.

Why not go to Otterloo after Amsterdam and then to the Delft?

If you wanted to go to the KM on a daytrip, I'd suggest going early and getting there when the musuem opens. There are other things to do in the park so a night wouldn't be a waste of time.

There is a little bus that takes you from Ede to the KM but a taxi is fine.

We like to have a car but on that trip (almost exactly as yours) a car was impractical. Too much trouble to park it and return it. The trains are quite comfortable and inexpensive. The Dutch make it very easy to use public transportation.

BTW, you're correct about the car and if you do find a car rental dropping off in a different country would be expensive. Not at all worth it b/c like I said the public transpo is perfect.

that 10 euro taxi does sound cheap - it may be in conjunction with a train ticket so ask about it when buying a ticket to Ede-W or Apeldoorn.

It's not a private cab. It's a group thing. It is on the KM website but it is only in Dutch.

You can copy and paste it into google translate but the bus picks you up at the station and takes you right to the park. It's a short ride.

Seem so weird to go back and forth. Kroller Muller is easily reached from Arnhem via Ede Wageningen.
Arnhem is lovely: wonderful countryside, great hotels (the original Bilderberg!) You could even rent bikes in Arnhem and cycle there.

No need to rent bikes. The white bikes in the park are free. It makes the most sense to go to the KM right after A'dam. Otterlo has a nice little hotel, within walking distance to the KM
