Travel disruption from CDG to City center
We are arriving at CDG on December 17. My plan was to take the RER-B to the Luxembourg stop and am concerned with the recent transport issues.
if the trains are on strike, will the airport bus be on strike as well? Hearing about massive traffic jams, I’m reluctant to take a taxi. Any alternatives or suggestions or words of comfort?

I took a taxi yesterday. €50 fixed price to Montmartre. No taxi line at all at 10 am. Lots of highway traffic. The driver took city streets through Saint Dénis and Saint Ouen. It took one hour (normally 30 min). Not so terrible.

No problem at all getting the RER from CDG to Gare du Nord, since it is the starting point of the line -- you will have a seat with no problem. But you have to change to another train at Gare du Nord to get to Luxembourg. It is just a matter of going down one level to the other train. Also not a problem for getting a seat because the southbound service on strike days also starts from Gare du Nord. No point in taking a polluting taxi or getting stuck in traffic for more than an hour.

If ever the rail connection at Gare du Nord proves to be nightmarish, the bus station is above the RER level on the surface.
However, television news stories about the strike showing shoving and pushing at Gare du Nord proved that it was all ridiculous -- everybody is massed in the middle of the train while there is plenty of room at both ends. These trains are 300 meters long, so just walk to one end or the other if necessary.
