Travel Diary to Italy...1894
I was going through my grandmothers things last month and found two leather bound notepads that were filled with entries from 1894. They belonged to her father. Would any of you be interested if I were to post at a later date (after I have time to try and read his writing)?
Are you kidding? What a find!
Yes, absolutely! How fascinating! I will be going to Italy for the first time in April and would like to know what it was like in 1894 for comparison purposes. Thank you for being willing to share.
Kitin, yes, without a doubt! Please do us all a favor of sharing his memories.
YES YES
Okay I will do it. It will take me several days, maybe a week as it was written partly in pencil and pen and the script is at times hard to decipher. But I will post. I am kind of interesed as well.
It's a wonderful idea, I'm sure that we would enjoy reading your great grandfather's notes, but before you do it, ask your grandmother if she would mind.
xxx my grandmother is deceased so I do not think she would mind:) But seriously, if she were alive I think I would have her blessing.
What a treasure!! I would love to read it. Bless you for sharing it.
Hi, Kit: I would be extremely interested in reading your grandfather's memoirs! I have been recording my own trips for years so that some time in the future my own grandchildren might enjoy them. Please share!

Mary Kay

The prospect of reading a travel diary from 1894 is truly exciting. I'd like to say thanks, too, for sharing. I can't wait!
Another yes vote.
I would be absolutely riveted! Please do!
I had a chance to buy the photo journal of a woman in England on the Grand Tour in 1904 because for some reason, her crazy great-niece didn't want it. It was a wealth of amazing photographs, notes and souveniers that I wouldn't give up today!
Please post and warn us all before you do! Use the same heading so we can all find you again!
Kit, I appreciate your offer to post this treasure. But please do not cheapen it by posting on a message board. If you would like to do a worthy tribute, why don't you plan a quality website? Or else just keep it for yourself and your family. I keep travel diaries and I would hate for my great grandchildren to post my memories on some message board in graffiti fashion.
Really, it's not like Kit is going to post pornographic material or the cure to cancer! It's just a travel diary for pete's sake. Kit, please post it when you can...most of us would love to read it. Even if you choose not to in the end, it has encouraged me to start writing about my travels in a journal from this point forward. I would relish the idea of my great grandkids finding mine one day.
No kidding "are you kidding," I never said it was pornography or a cure for cancer. But a travel diary is a personal thing. Think back to any of YOUR personal written memorabilia. Your grammar school autograph book, your diary... would you want it posted on Fodors? I think it is a precious memento for the family. If there are exerpts that Kit wishes to share, I think it deserves a better place than a message board.
Honestly, I don't think at this point Kit's ggf cares if we see it or not. When I'm dead and gone, I won't care either....it's really not that serious! A diary is a heck of a lot different than a travel diary. If there are personal anecdotes that are better left private, I'm confident that Kit has the good sense to determine if it's appropriate to post. That's just my two cents, you don't have to agree. I'm through with this little debate.
Well perhaps my travel diaries are a little more, ahem, "interesting" than most. They will probably make a great mini-series someday. On cable, where the censors are not as strict ; )
You know I keep travel journals as well. But to think that they may be discovered 109 years from now and some distant relative might actually make them public on whatever mass communication system is going then -- is really nothing I'll lose any sleep worrying about. What an honor to think that anyone would find those ancient relics interesting!
Ok, so I lied about being through with this debate! lol

Now I think I understand your position (no pun intended). I guess when I think of travel diary, I'm thinking National Geographic, not Porno Graphic...ok, that was a low blow...sorry! Thanks for the chuckle, x!
