Travel Channel - Not Your Average Travel Guide
 

This morning I received an email that had this blurb about a show that will premiere on the Travel Channel on Nov. 20th:

Travel Channel will premiere a new series Not Your Average Travel Guide on November 20, with back-to-back half-hour episodes at 8p and 830p covering Amsterdam and London. The series will give viewers an insider's look at cities and other destinations worldwide, with a Travel Guide host who does everything from the research to the shooting, editing, scripting and all-around producing of the individual episode. The series is produced by Discovery Productions.

Hopefully they will move towards showing more travel shows instead of poker tournaments as they've been doing alot.

Wow, I didn't realize the travel channel actually had any travel shows on much anymore. Maybe I'll watch, but I've kind of given up on them.

I can't remember the name, but last Thursday I saw a show on the Travel Channel about 8 women from the U.S. spending 6 weeks traveling central Africa. It focused on their reactions to what was going on around them and of course their interactions with one another. It was an hour long show and went by really fast. I found it interesting, especially since there are so few travel shows that focus on the African continent.

I ended up watching 3 back to back travel shows on the TC that night and was kind of surprised.

I saw the show as well, it was called "Moms on the Move" I believe. I thought it was interesting -- the camping trip was horrible for some, and I would be scared being so close to those hippos in the wild. The segment on meeting women with "Aids" was moving, not sure what they expected to accomplish but it does bring forth the dilemna Africa is facing. Liked the Moms helping out in the orphanage -- how sad.

I missed the new 5 Takes episodes -- anyone see it. Not sure I will be as interested in seeing the US through foreigner's eyes.

It's a wonder that Fodor's (or even Frommers for that matter) haven't done a 30 min or an hour show about various European destinations. Sure, Rick Steves has his adventures in Europe shows - which I do like btw - but why not one more travel show by an expert travel guide. With all the info that's been posted on here, surely a straightforward no nonsense program on what to do in Europe, how to do some things, and what to avoid would entice viewers.

I have seen the commercials for the new show, looks interesting.
On Thurs. night they have a travel line up of an hour of Samantha Brown which is interesting, Joan Cusack hosting a cooking in Europe show, which I really can't get into and then Moms in Africa which is interesting.
Yay for the travel shows with no poker!!

Hallelujah! the travel channel is back to travel instead of Poker, etc! I had given up on them as well, especially since our local paper does not list the TC in its tv guide.

I also enjoy Rick Steves shows on PBS. Also Travels with Rudy Maxxa is carried on one of our PBS stations. He always gives me another place I want to go. Of course the reality of the bank account always creeps in, but I can dream.
