We knew we at risk flying across the US, three airports, two flights. We did everything we could of to be safe- wore N95 masks, rubber gloves, plastic shields when transiting through airports. Our recent COVID tests were negative so we are OK. For many reasons, we had to travel but I wouldn’t do it just to go on a trip.

From a NYT article this week;
“The only part of the passenger seats that was wiped down was the seat itself,” one pilot wrote. “Not the area that passengers touch constantly, such as seatbelts, window shades, arm rest, etc. Also, the entire plane was supposedly wiped down in less than 10 minutes.” Last week, the Association of Flight Attendants began a survey to assess sanitation and other safety issues. Of the many hundreds who have responded so far, only 44 percent of flight attendants said their planes were thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between flights during the day.

This is something you need to plan carefully for. And you need to plan the precautions you will take above and beyond what the airline and other passengers are doing. You need good quality masks, several, and you should plan to wear them the entire flight. Alcogel and soap for washing hands, and disinfecting wipes for cleaning down surfaces. I would also check with your carrier what precautions they are taking on board, and see if you can find someone who has flown with them who can confirm that they keep to these precautions. Personally if travel is non essential, I wouldn't be doing it at this time. Holidays can wait. The risk of infection on the plane, in the airport, during the holiday is still too high. And what about quarantine in Europe? Coming from the US you will need to I think. That won't be much of a trip.

Depends on how you protect yourself these days.
I think there so no such thing as a "SAFE PLACE" these days.
So go and travel if you need it :)

Right now I think anyone flying is irresponsible, it is not just your life and your family you are betting it is the life of your community that you are risking.
