Travel between Rome and Positano

I am planning a trip to Rome and Positano in July. I will be traveling with my two teenagers 17 &19 and husband. Our plan is to fly into Rome then somehow get to Positano. We plan on spending 3 nights 4 days there and then returning to Rome for 7 days. We thought about renting a car for the trip but have been told it is a car is not needed in Positano. We are looking for suggestions for the best transportation option between the two cities, as well as an economical place to stay in Positano. Thanks for your help

My suggestion would be to take the train from Rome to Salerno. Walk approx two blocks to
ferry dock and take ferry to Positano.
We stayed at Hotel California while in Positano. You might check
that out.

Welcome to the board. This is a webcam of Positano. It is two doors down from Hotel California.

I think we had room 66. It gives you the same view as the webcam.

The last time we travelled from Rome to Naples on the Eurostar train, from Naples to Sorrento on the Circumvesuviana (small gauge railway) and then by bus to Positano.
What's your budget for accommodation in Positano?

Hi MG - The Salerno route Dok mentioned is a good one if you want to arrive by sea and are not in a hurry.

If cost is not an issue, the quickest and most convenient option is train to Naples, then limo transfer (- typically € 100-120) to your Positano hotel.

There is also a Rome-Positano bus service (- operator: Marozzi) leaving Rome 07.00 (- journey time: 4.5 hrs). This is the budget option. For details see:

Hope this helps ...

Hi MG,

If you don't have your tickets yet, fly into Naples and out of Rome.
