Travel between Greece-Cyprus-Turkey

Hi everyone,
I am planning a trip between Greece, southern (Greek) Cyprus and Turkey and heard it might be difficult to travel between Cyprus and Turkey or vice versa (ie customs used to turn travelers away from southern Cyprus if they had just come from Turkey). Has anyone had trouble with this or recommend a certain travel sequence between the three countries? I haven't found anything online about this so far. Thanks for the help!!

Good question. I know you can go from Turkey directly to Northern Cyprus, but if you want the south I hope someone can help. People in Southern Cyprus REALLY don't like the Turks.

Thanks P_M - you are always so great with responses! I suppose I could travel from south to north Cyprus then get to Turkey easier that way. I'll keep researching. Thanks again!

Actually that might not be possible. I've heard you cannot cross the "green line," which divides north and south, at least it isn't done easily. Please check that out thoroughly before making that plan.

You can visit the North of Cyprus from the South. It has been possible since Cyprus joined EU and some things are cheaper eg petrol and grocery shopping so some make the journey especially. Many from the south have been to see their properties and are friendly with the current Turkish occupiers and v.v. You cannot take a rental car from the north to the south but it is ok v.v. but might need additional insurance.
Also, appropriate visa might be necessary for TRNC if not British or EU passport holder

Thank you Odin, I'm glad things have changed since I was there.

Hi-I hope I am not too late answering in. In Sept 06 we went from Paris to Cyprus no problem. Next we were going to Turkey. We had to fly from Cyprus to Athens to Turkey. Everything looked so close on the map as I was preparing for my trip but because of the politics of No.& So Cyprus it was not easy & very costly. I felt So Cyprus where we had our timeshare was very expensive. The Cypriot pound had a bad rate of exchange. Worse than the Euro. I Did love Cyprus & was glad we went.We met a couple in the Capitol which is in 2 countries who were from England & they said in was very inexpensive in No. Cyprus. Chris

Thanks BeniciaChris. My plans are for September and I haven't booked the air travel yet so this is very helpful. A friend is loaning me their timeshare in South Cyprus (don't remember the location off-hand) so hopefully we'll find the prices a little lower next year.

Many thanks to all!

Hi, I live in Northern Cyprus, your only restriction would be if you arrive in Northern Cyprus first with a non-eu passport. Crossing to the Republic of Cyprus will cause problems. If you have an EU passport you have no problems crossing the border at all, you will be issued with a free Tourist visa if you when you enter the North of Cyprus.

@Rose
You do not need a visa http://tinyurl.com/n9q4sj if I presume that you are an U.S. citizen. If you are making a roundtrip Greece-Cyprus-Turkey or vice versa than is crossing the border between North and South-Cyprus no problem at all in any direction. If you go to Cyprus do not miss the Old Town of Famagusta or Salamis and Girne/Kyrenia. Hotel White Pearl is right on the famous harbour. Apart from Nicosia/Lefkosa there is imho not much to see in the south of Cyprus. If you fly from Athens to Larnaca or Paphos then leave Cyprus via Lefkosa(Ercan airport) or a ferry from Girne to Alanya/Tasucu. Flying from/to Lefkosa(Ercan) and in Turkey is cheap. It is impossible to fly from Greece to Lefkosa(Ercan) directly because of the boycot. Cheap for hopping around are also the taxis in North Cyprus.

<<Apart from Nicosia/Lefkosa there is imho not much to see in the south of Cyprus.>>
Well that's not really true, is it?

Hi Rosa-I just popped in this site & was wondering how you liked Cyprus. and of coarse the rest of your holiday. We stayed at a timeshare in Southern Cyprus called Chryslands Garden Club. It is through RCI.Did you find it expensive in Cyprus. Also how was the flight situation? My trip was my 60th birthday trip but I did feel the flights were prety pricey. Greece is one of my favorite countries to visit & I loved Turkey. Take care Chris

Hi Chris,
I'm actually still in the planning stages of the trip so I'm sorry but I don't have much feeback to offer but will certainly do a trip report when I return. I can't wait!! :)
