Travel between Edinburgh and St. Andrews?

Hubby and I are heading to Scotland next week. We are staying at a B&B in St. Andrews as he is a golfer and is playing four courses in three days. I'm not a golfer and would like to go into Edinburgh and catch some of the festivities going on there in August. We will have a vehicle, but I'm not keen on driving in a city I've never seen before...and I think I'll have a hard enough time keeping on the left! Is there public transport between Edinburgh and St. Andrews? (Perhaps a park-and-ride?) I checked the website for Scotland Rail, but couldn't make heads nor tails of it.

The easiest is for you to take the train from Leuchars to Edinburgh. Leuchars is the nearest train station and is about 6 miles from St Andrews. You could drive to Leuchars, or your husband could drop you there before his round -- or there is frequent bus service or you could take a taxi.

The train will drop you in the very center of Edinburgh at Waverly station. Could not be easier.

I'd recommend the bus to the station at St. Andrews - its very easy and runs frequently.

You should be able to buy a combination bus/train ticket
