Travel around Bari, Italy
 

Hey all !
My wife and I(both around 40 years old), planning to visit Italy at coming September for a week and we would like to
know what are the main places to visit around Bari.
we plan to rent a car and we both like landscapes, day travel , visit old cities and good ice cream and food :)

can you please advice what can we plan ?

What are your interests? To start, research the Puglia region as it has a lot to offer, but your initial description is a bit too vague to provide specific suggestions. If it helps, there have been several trip reports and planning threads on this forum recently of this region to give you a good idea.

It would help to know if you are you going to be going elsewhere either before or after Bari? And where you are flying into/home from?

If you have just a week, I'd limit it to just two bases in this region. You could do the south first and end up closer to Bari itself at the end for the areas, but suggestions may differ depending on the remainder of your travel plans.

I did not write any trip reports on the Puglia trips we took after those first two,, but we did return this past September to the area near Andria, and to the Gargano; if you want info on those place, and Matera, there is a bit here, but its mostly about food and it begins in Campania:and includes Molise and Lazio as well.

From our last foray to Puglia, and to Matera (an hour from Bari and a "must," here are four restaurants that I highly recommend; we ate at plenty of places further south but those meals were during our first three or four trips, too long ago to mention here.

MATERA:

TRATTORIA STANO AND TRATTORIA LA LOPA

MONTEGROSSO: ANTICHI SAPORI (known for the owner's name, Pietro Zito)

MINERVINO MURGE: MASSERIA BARBERA

This is still pretty vague, I'm sorry. You can stop for coffee and gelato in just about every town in Italy. What kind of nature? Do you want to look at it or be in it? Hiking? Beach?

"Main attractions of the Apulia region" mean different things to every person. Zebec covered a variety of locations and attractions in their TR and ekscrunchy can write about a meal better than any food critic. Obviously both travelers have different ideas of what their own "main attractions" are/were. I have mine, which differs from both.

I hope my question does not come off as condescending, but what were the reasons why you and your wife decided to travel to Apulia? Your answer determines what you want to see/do besides just coffee and gelato...
