Travel and Leisure--Sept-Paris bistros

good article on some au courant bistros, including one I was looking for comments on recently, l'Absinthe.
Also suggestions for having lunches at some of the temples of haute cuisine for a lot less than the cost of dinner.

Would you mind giving a link or providing a list of the names discussed in the article?

Thanks.

T & L does archive many of their articles, but I don't know if they provide articles from current on their website.
the places mentioned are
Chez l'Ami Jean
Aux Lyonnais
Atelier Maitre Albert
Repaire de Cartouche
Bistrot Paul Bert
Chez Michel
Pinxo
L'Absinthe

For grand lunches
Le Grand Vefour (estimated $93 pp)
L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon (estimated $74 pp)

Thanks elaine. Did they say how much Robuchon is for dinner? May go try it next week.

Did they like Aux Lyonnais? Just curious, as I ate there over July 4th weekend. My friend enjoyed it more than I did, I think.

They loosely estimated dinner at either LGV or AJR at, at least, $400-500 for two, with wine a big factor of course.

The article was written by Gael Greene, a food writer I really respect.
Briefly:
Chez l'Ami Jean: place is packed, frenzied waiters, traditional comforting food, dinner for two $74
27 rue Malar 7th

Aux Lyonnais
tables scarce, spruced up by Alain Ducasse, good for carnivores as meat or sausages is the thing there.
32 rue St-Marc, 2nd
$149 for two

Atelier Maitre Albert
recently taken over by Guy Savoy, again hearty meat dishes are the recommended ones, including veal shank, chicken livers. 1 rue Maitre-Albert, 5th, $99 for two

Repaire de Cartouche, a mouth-watering amandine pudding cake, chef stresses Norman classics, theme is 19th century inn, service depends on your particular waiter and his mood
99 rue Amelot, 11th, $89 for two for dinner

Bistrot Paul Bert 18 rue Paul-Bert
in the 11th dinner for two, $64
menu has both traditional and contemporary dishes

Chez Michel, in the 10th, 10 rue de Belzunce
sensational sea food, Gael says
$74

Au Bascou ( I left that off by mistake, above)
38 rue Reamur, 3rd
Basque specialties dinner for two $77

Pinxo
9 rue d'Alger, 1st
hip place, Spanish-influenced food
dinner for two $124

L'Absinthe
24 Place du Marche St-Honore
1st
dinner for two $87
classic food but served in modern ways
perhaps a little over-designed,according to Gael, but she was won over by the food

JR is that expensive?!? I thought that this was supposed to be JR's new informal, cool thing....

I don't know if Aux Lyonnais is really so meat-oriented. The dishes are interesting but traditional -- that's my impression anyway. I had the quenelles, but I just can't see what the fuss is about (my French friend thought that they were very well done). An American couple that sat next to us (but fluent in French) who I think live in Paris were also gushing about the restaurant.

I guess I'll think about which restaurants to go to in a bit.

Elaine, I recently read Joel Robouchon has opened a new restaurant in Paris, more casual than L'Atelier. Can't remember where I saw the info though.
