Travel agent for Capri and Amalfi Coast?
Is it beneficial to use a travel agent? I am finding that some of the hotels I want are booked and I wonder if perhaps agencies book rooms so during high season and we could get a room that way? Also, we are first time visitors to this part of Italy and perhaps an agent would help us with logistics like getting the luggage to and from the hotel, renting a boat for a few hours and in general mistakes to avoid.

1) Travel agents do not book hotel rooms in the hopes of reselling them later.
2) Every hotel will make arrangements for your luggage to be brought to the hotel for you. 3) http://www.capritourism.com/en/boating |
How soon is your trip? It could be that the better hotels are truly full if it is within the next couple of months.

I would suggest keeping your questions on one thread, as you already got a few answers to your query about hotels on your other thread. Which ones have you tried and found to be booked?
Have you decided where exactly you want to stay? How much you can/want to pay? How will you arrive at your destination? (Reference to your question about getting luggage to the hotel..) I do not think you need a travel agent, although some people use Virtuoso agents to get upgrades and free breakfasts at hotels that do not offer them. Most better hotels in this area will give you breakfast with the room charge. |
Ekscrunchy -- I was inquiring about a good travel agent not just for hotels but for other matters -- logistics, drivers, boat rental, dinner recommendations etc. so that is why I opened a new thread as my prior threads were about hotels.

It will be difficult to give you info about boat rentals, restaurants, transporting luggage, etc, until you decide on your hotel(s), or at least on the town(s) where you will be staying.

I've never heard of a travel agent who offers dinner recommendations. I don't see anything you've mentioned that a travel agent can help with any better than people here at Fodors (and elsewhere) and your own research. Most travel agents, IME, unlike folks on message boards like this, have never even set foot in most of the places they send people to.
