Travel Agencies in Athens and/or Santorini

Hi - I will need to book my ferry tickets once I get to Greece for my Santorini to Mykonos journey.

I will be in Athens on a Sunday...are the travel agencies open on Sundays there? If so, what agency is recommended?

If it is closed on Sunday - where can I go in Santorini?

Thanks

You can do it right at the airport when you first arrive. Find the Amphitrion Holidays trave office in the Main Hall. They'll sell you the tickets you need so you don't have to waste time in Athens or elsewhere tracking them down.

On Santorini you can go to the Pelican Travel office on the main square in Fira or Karvounis Tours in Oia.

the problem is that we are arriving at 10:30 pm on Saturday night. We will be in a rush to catch the metro into Athens and the agency you mentioned at the airport will probably be closed, right?

So are the agencies even opened on Sundays? Or should we just hold off until Santorini and go to the place you mentioned?

I don't know if it will be open or not, but you could take the time to check and take the Express Airport Bus into Athens instead. It will take you right to Syntagma Square. It leaves the airport every half-hour every day and all night long. I'm not sure if either Pelican or Karvounis will be open on Sunday. I think your best chance is to try Amphitrion and take the bus.

hmm the airport bus? I didn't even know about it. Well we are staying at the Acropolis View which is not really walking distance from Syntagma with luggage and everything. Does the bus make any other stops?

You can easily book ferry tickets through a travel agency in Greece and have them mailed to you in the U.S. There are many threads here about Greek travel agencies, and they all book ferry tickets and can usually get you a better deal on hotels in Greece, where travel agents are still a vital part of the system for booking travel.

Hi Doug - thank you so much for replying. Unfortunately since we are leaving in 3 days for Greece - it might not be enough time to get the tickets sent to us in time. However, I will look into that option for future trips.

Actually, I'd suggest booking with a travel agency in Athens and having the ferry tickets delivered directly to your hotel. You'll pay a service charge, but then you won't have to worry about it on arrival. You might find an agency still open if you call now, or do it in the morning. But call ... don't do it online, which can cause a delay.

The bus does make other stops but I don't know if any of them are close enough to your hotel to be of any use. You could take the bus to Syntagma and a taxi the rest of the way.

Hi - I just booked ferry tickets online from Santorini to Mykonos, using www.openseas.gr On the website, you select a travel agency to pick up the tickets at. I then emailed the agency to see if they were close to where we are staying in Santorini. They got back to me and are holding the tickets for us.

Doug and meohare - I see...that definitely is a better option since we wont waste precious time looking around for travel agencies. Thanks - I will definitely look into this.

brotherleelove - thanks for the response. I know the metro stop running at either 11:30 or midnight..so the bus might be our only option if we are delayed for any reason. Thanks again for all your help!
